Having bought a Diesel Figo just a week ago, . News is out from Supreme Court agrees to ban registration of diesel car that are over 2000cc SUVs from polluting the city, Car manufacturers M&M, Tata, Toyota and many other brands are in big trouble, the recent NGT ban on diesel cars registration in Delhi had stalled Diesel cars worth 1000cr.
Won't be long other cities will soon follow this, people who have booked, paid already and can't get it registered in Delhi, only way is to get it registered outside Delhi and bring it in...eventually this practice will be forbidden to do so very soon.

Then this is nothing but a BS. Looks like NGT and supreme court need at appoint a panel of 'actual' experts for the job. It is possible for a poor maintained Swift to emit more particulate matter than a well maintained XUV. IMO either ban all or none.

I would like to know what facts the NGT and court have taken into consideration before reaching this idiotic decision.

@TSIVipul - It is absolutely BS, if it has come to this then it is due to ignorance and carelessness of the NGT who didn't foresee that this will be the result of cheaper diesel and weak emission norms, only when things come to Neck, the responsible department, court start to act hastily, but diesel cannot be the only source to be blamed, and not all commercial vehicles are following CNG IMO

How?, people would continue submitting 'rent agreement' done outside city limit as a proof of address and continue buying. This would rob the city's civic authorities from getting the taxes too.

Supreme Court decides to ban SUV( 2litre or more) sales in NCR

The Supreme Court will pass an order today in which it will ban the sale of diesel luxury cars and SUVs having an engine capacity of 2-litres or more in the National Capital Region for three months starting January 1st 2016. However, small diesel cars have been exempted from this rule.

Cities like Noida, Gurgaon, Ghaziabad, Faridabad are included in NCR.

The court will also ban the entry of trucks into Delhi which use the capital as a transit route before moving to other states. Vehicles that carry goods and headed for Delhi will now have to spend extra for the Environment Compensation Charge (ECC) which amounts to Rs 2600 for big trucks and Rs 1400 for light commercial vehicles. However, all trucks and LCVs coming to Delhi must have been bought and registered after 2006 (has to be less than 10 years old). All city cabs, including Uber and Ola, will now have to convert to CNG, the court added.

What is the point in banning the sales just for 3 months?. May be because the sales are at peak during the year ends?. We are hearing a number of bizarre rules and judgements in the name of environmental protection in and around the capital region lately. Such 'Go green' motives are definitely great and should be applauded but the way of implementation is not efficient or practical most of the times.

Why they ban it for 3 months? . Stopping trucks entering the city is a good idea. It can reduce pollution as well as the traffic problems.

Do I smell a rat here?

The companies like Maruti and Hyundai who have very less presence in the diesel car market seem to be biggest gainer for me. Again non of them have any major presence in more than 2000CC capacity. So these would be untouched. where as Mahindra have majority of thier vehicles in +2000CC diesel category and would be badly hit in the Delhi region. So wouldbe be case with Tata. So this move to me looks like anti indian move. [anger]

now if they had to ban diesel vehicle why ban more than 2000CC? why not all diesel altogether? Are petrol less polluting? with the amount of petrol vehicles being sold the pollution level will be high inspite of banning of the 2000CC and above diesels.

Viky TATA winger should be aggressively marketed now. Its a sub 2 litre MPV more value for money than an INNOVA . Even Sumo can be launched with that engine.

Score ONE for stupid Indian laws which have no afterthoughts and are pure BS for Public.
Who said Only diesels are more polluting? and Only Larger Diesels?

Petrols of same CC are often less efficient than their diesel counterparts which more fuel is Burnt and more has to be imported from Outside. Simple plan for crippling the economy.

Also, The SC and Delhi Govt is Mad against ONLY car owners these days, What about the heavy Industires? What about Power plants? Are'nt these polluting at all? A Single factory can emit as Much smoke as 1000s of cars and it runs 24 hours, Not just peak hours.

For all who are telling this is pure BS, please think of it this way.

Instead of doing nothing and regret, at least they are doing something now. Although it might be too late, but I seriously hope, with this kinda decisions, policy makers will come to an much more fruitful, logical and good solution sooner or later.

@vikyjoshi
We aren't talking about just CO2 emissions. It's about toxic pollutants emitted from diesel cars. Just have a look at Europe's current market scenario. The one who pushed diesel big time during 90s now started evolving and so drafted and imposed much more stringent BS6 emission norms to reduce pollution.

So, I see this move, as a step towards right direction and as we all know, failure is the stepping stone of success. With such failed rules, govt will form more robust one's once they woke up from the slumber.
