Volkswagen just can't seem to catch a break with their diesel variants. The new controversy is surrounding the Vento 1.5-litre TDI model. According to Conformity of Production tests done by the ARAI, the Volkswagen Vento sometimes exceeded the threshold limits for emissions.
Volkswagen has recalled 3877 units of the Vento and suspended the sales of the 1.5-litre(manual transmission) TDI model with immediate effect. Volkswagen is working on technical measures to correct the situation which it will propose to the ARAI.
After the fixes are implemented, the sales of the particular variant will resume as before. Volkswagen has said that the problem is only India specific, and not connected to the NOx scandal that the German carmaker was involved in last year.
Last year, Volkswagen had been forced to recall 3.23 lakh vehicles (not yet complete), to fix the excessive NOx emissions emitted by its diesel cars. The scandal was brought to light by the US EPA (United States Environmental Protection Agency).
