Mahindra & Mahindra has launched two commercial vehicles yesterday, the Mahindra Supro Maxitruck and Mahindra Supro Van. They are positioned just above the Maxximo Plus and Maxximo Van respectively.

The Mahindra Supro Van is capable of carrying 8 occupants (including the driver) in a 2+3+3 seating layout, with the rear seats facing each other. Ingress and egress for rear passengers are through sliding doors.

I see there is still room for making better wheelbase. Why didn't Tata or Mahindra try bringing a direct competitor to decades old Omni? I see Omni sale remains untouched for the last several years, though both M&M and Tata tried with similar segment.

1. Price list mentions BS4 variants
LX BS3 8 STR 438000

LX BS4 8 STR 453000

VX BS3 5 STR 458000

VX BS3 8 STR 463000

VX BS4 5 STR 473000

VX BS4 8 STR 478000

ZX BS3 5 STR 493000

ZX BS4 5 STR 508000

2. This sounds like the end of the Tata Venture, which if not upgraded will soon become a relic of TMLs good ideas but poor execution!

Mini van or micro van segment have good potencial demand in developed counties but why TATA neglected this segment they already have good platforms thats suits perfect for micro van and mini van segment

currently micro van segment dominated by maruti ohmi but lack of diesel powered micro vans the market share limited

So wish that TATA should launch a good looking powerfull micro van using TATA Ace Magic platform with TATA's upcoming new 1.05L dicor motor with segment first features like dual AC and Electronic Power Steering

I think Supro Van & Maxi-truck are basically the facelifted Maxximo series van & maxi-truck.
Then why the Mahindra got the need to create another brand Supro ?
Maxximo was already the good one.

Btw, Is Maxximo van & Maxi-truck series discontinued with these Supro-twins launch ?

Coz they know the buyers in this segment are not that literate about the INDIAN car manufacturer marketing strategy. They can easily fool those innocents.

If you look down to the quality, it is not more than a piece of "scrap". They quality requires by such vehicle in these segment has to be at par considering the price factor too. These vehicles do not long last, not even 10 years.

Agreeing with the comments above, I feel that a facelift to existing model would've done better rather than starting a new range in already crowded market.

The design looks unsafe due to tall stance and very small wheels which are looking like some cartoon in the pic. And the Engine will cry out loud with just 40HP and such a big box to carry.

Those vans are going to be used in Rural markets as Taxi services. In the near future you can see them carrying 15 to 20 people and running along deserted highways of India.Any sane man will not buy those vehicles for personal usage. At that price, they could have given at least better tyres.

tata have launched the super ace with dicor engine..bs4,but left the venture with the old bs3.mysterious.
hope the new magic mantra is a step in the right direction.
the supro name sounds like a marketing trick.however mahindra do seem to be able to judge the market better than TML.

Yes TATA neglecting such good product like TATA Venture its very practical product but lack proper engine it didnt did well in market common TATA dont waste time try to revamp the tata venture van with BS4 engines if possible make engine options in order bases

TATA should Launch venture with three different engine options

TATA Venture Revotron 1.2T

TATA Venture 1.4L Dicor

and as order based option TATA Venture 1.3L Quadrajet90

Infact any tourer that is positioned should at minimum have -

- 7-8 comfy seater
- climate control
- abs
- decently traction tyres
- 4 wheel drive (because if really used as tourer, its safe to assume you will not find traction roads everywhere)
- good power/torque (to pull one through when stuck)

Tata Motors LCV slump has a detailed analysis in Forbes (Forbes Welcome)
Here are some highlights

Specifically they seem to have lost out to M&M "Much of the weakness in LCVs is associated with the low demand. Industry-wide sales have declined by 5% in the last seven months, as demand for these vehicles used for intra-city transport remains tepid. Within this segment, Tata Motors has also lost some of its stronghold. In fact, Mahindra & Mahindra surpassed the automaker this year in terms of unit sales of LCVs, raising its market share to over 42%, compared to Tata’s share of roughly 37%"
The report mentions the Mega and Mantra as TMLs new plans
"But Tata is looking to stimulate demand going forward with the launch of the new smart pick-up Tata ACE Mega, with a rated payload of one ton. This will help the company improve competitiveness in one of the new segments within LCVs that has arisen and is drawing more customers. And then there is the new launch Magic Mantra, on the public transport side."
