Maruti Swift and DZire to get AMT and hybrid in diesel.

For better convenience at an affordable cost it will be introducing AMT (automated manual transmission) in more of its products, with the Swift and the Swift DZire being next in line

To enhance the fuel efficiency of the Swift anf Swift DZire, it will also be offered with SHVS (Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki) in the diesel variants. The duo have been the best-seller in its segment and the company will have to look at means to boost its numbers even further.

Expected to launch in this financial year- most likely at the Auto Expo 2016.

Wow! That's amazing!! Why isn't the petrol variant getting AMT?? Cars like swift are extensively used in the city, therefore people prefer a petrol variant and a good AT gearbox for the same. I hope even the petrols get AMT.
Now FE figures are no doubt going to hover over the 25-26 kmpl mark right? Now the picture with the test drive car assures us that the launch is right around the corner.
This will just add to MSILs success in the AMT fleet of cars. AMT is a very economical idea and is sure to up the sales of their cars.
It would be thoughtful to plonk AMT in larger cars like Ertiga and Ciaz rather than the CVTs

Dzire Petrol has an Automatic in form of a 4 Speed Torque Converter. So it doesn't require AMT.

Any idea if smaller diesels like Celerio diesel will get AMT? This might as well boost the Diesel Celerio's sales.
Might be in future, but I don't see any dramatic increase in sales, especially the diesel version which is ordinary to say the least. Last month my friend had choosen Celerio as a replacement for his Alto K10, he wasn't sure whether to go for petrol/diesel. After he TD both, he found petrol to be better. A quick word with Salesman confirmed that last month only 4 Celerio Diesels' were sold. That speaks about the engine.

Anyway, i think Maruti will plonk this AMT to the Swift Twins and also to Ertiga Diesel while the Premium ones (SCross, Ciaz, Vitara, Baleno) will get more advanced CVT, TC, DCT.

Hey vm2011,
Do you mean that the initial plan of AMT was restricted to LDI and VDI variants? January 2016 is a perfect time for launch.
There were speculations on AMT coming in all diesel variants, but now looks to be confirmed only will come in ZDI

But atleast the mid variant V should get the AMT. Considering the fact that VDI is the most common swift/ Dzire trim, MSIL should launch AMT on V & Z variants atleast. Lets wait for the launch as it's just around the corner.

Maruti Suzuki India has launched its best-selling Dzire with Auto Gear Shift (AGS) technology, the company informed in a BSE filing. With this, the sedan becomes the first diesel car and the fourth model in Maruti Suzuki's portfolio to be offered with AGS technology.

The AGS transmission will be available in the top end ZDi variant of DZire and will be priced at Rs 8.39 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). ZDi Manual Transmission is priced at Rs 7,90 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

This is probably going to be sold as India's most Fuel Efficient sedan? They sure will boost sales big time. Nice to own a brand new Diesel AT for 8 lakh rupees. [lol]

I think AMT / Airbags/ABS will become the norm of cars now in India

BTW automatics have more mileage or less ? [;)]

Gearless are a blessing in Indians congested roads

its a good step to introduce the AGS to the dzire but they should have made available it for the v trim levels also just as they did with vxi automatic that could have made it more affordable ! 8.39 lacs for dzire sounds too of pricing imo!

Buddies, Has anyone bought a face-lift AGS Dzire till now? or have driven by any chance? If so, please share your views. I saw it today. Everything else in interiors is similar to the facelift Dzire except the Transmission.
