Honda recalls 2.24 lakh units of CR-V, sedans Civic, City and Jazz in India for faulty airbags.
Honda Cars India Ltd (HCIL) on Friday announced that it will voluntarily replace airbag inflators of 223,578 vehicles of 'previous generations' of CR-V, Civic, City and Jazz as part of Honda's preventive global recall campaign involving Takata's malfunctioning airbag inflators, making it the largest ever product recall by a car manufacturer in India.
Honda City — the executive segment sedan — is the most affected with 143,154 units being recalled.
Honda City sold between 2007 and 2012 have been recalled. More than 54,200 Civics, manufactured between 2003-2012 too have been recalled. This is the longest time period of recall for any of its models. The recall by Honda is part of their global recall programme involving Takata's malfunctioning airbag inflators.
In May 2015, the US safety regulator — The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration — declared that Takata would declared almost 33.8 million vehicles needed a recall after its airbags were found to have a manufacturing flaw that could make it explode and spray occupants in the car with shards of metals.
Please check in Honda's website if your vehicle is covered under this recall program.
