BMW has been testing the new-generation X1 for a while and this is the first time that the X1 will be a front-wheel drive based on the UKL1 architecture shared with the new MINI family and 2 Series range.

Smaller engines make their way, especially the new three-cylinder 1.5-litre and the four-cylinder 2.0-litre engines. The engine outputs range from 150bhp to 231bhp. The engines link up to an eight-speed Steptronic unit, which is a new development.

The xDrive intelligent all-wheel-drive system also takes its place in the new BMW X1 in a further developed form. The weight-saving, compact and efficient system uses an electro-hydraulically controlled multi-plate clutch to distribute drive between the front and rear axle just as required for the situation at hand. Standard equipment includes air conditioning, an audio system with USB and AUX-in sockets, and the iDrive operating system, whose 6.5-inch display is integrated into the instrument panel in freestanding monitor form.

The new X1 has grown in height compared to its predecessor (+53 millimetres) and BMW claims it has helped increase the spaciousness of the interior. Folding down the standard-fitted 40:20:40 rear seat backrest, which can also be specified in angle-adjustable form as an option, allows load capacity to be expanded to as much as 1,550 litres.

World debut at IAA 2015 in Frankfurt.
Further adding credence to its arrival is the latest entry in Zauba, an import/export database, which reveals that the 2016 BMW X1 has been imported into India for testing.

The exterior design has taken an evolutionary step ahead, featuring new design elements that lend a bold look.
It is the first BMW product for India to ride on the company’s new UKL platform, and is a whopping 135 kg lighter than its predecessor, thus weighing a mere 1,430 kg. The 2016 BMW X1 measures 4,439 mm in length, 1,821 mm in width, 1,598 mm in height and 2,670 mm in wheelbase. While the overall length is 36 mm shorter than the outgoing model, it has grown 21 mm wider and 53 mm taller.
The listing states that model imported is the X1 sDrive20d, which produces 190 hp and 400 Nm. Power is sent through an optional 8-speed ZF automatic gearbox to the front wheels. An xDrive AWD system could be available in an higher variant. Its fuel consumption and carbon emission (NEDC standards) are rated at 24.49 km/L and 128 g/km, respectively.

The interior is a departure with respect to build quality and equipment.

Re: New BMW X1 (F48) Imported in India For Testing

Friends,

Saw this All new BMW X1 at the Mumbai airport's arrival lounge yesterday as I landed. The car looks quite good in flesh with nice interiors. At present, this is the only display vehicle available as I am told. I could not click many pics as it was all crowded. Still 2 pics I am posting.

^ Congrats. Any complaints on the ownership?
I felt the M line was the best bet of the lot. Which variant did you pick up.

Thanks. So far no compalints. M Sport was out of my budget. Went for the model below it. But have ordered some stuff to do a few upgrades. Will be posting a review soon.
