Friends, Mahindra and Mahindra recently launched the face-lift of its popular SUV the XUV-500 in Diesel engine. Now for the 1st time, the petrol variant has been spotted on tests in Chennai, India. As the tests are on, it seems Mahindra plans to launch the same soon.

The new gasoline engine range is likely to include three motors- 1.2L to 1.6L. We expect that the 1.6L motor could power the XUV500. Adding to it, the vehicle will get a new 6-speed automatic gearbox.

Re: Mahindra XUV-500 Facelift Petrol Spotted Testing.

currently the xuv has 2.2l Diesel heart. Will 1.6L petrol suffice for such a big vehicle? Wont it be a tiny heart for a big animal?
Vicky, keep aside 1.6 L buddy, I am worried, will the 1.2 L petrol engine would even be able to move this giant? Also, I smell Creta effect here. Reason, 1.6 L Petrol Creta launched yesterday and spy shots of Mahindra XUV Petrol start doing rounds from today itself. I do feel, Mahindra has closely and keenly followed the Creta's launch and after its launch all of a sudden we see Petrol XUV-5OO. It would be interesting to see how it comes out. But yes, at hand, we have an exciting discussion and views sharing to follow surely.[:)]

As there is no credible information regarding the engine. I think they may come up with 1.6l Turbo and if they are going to launch with turbo it will be able to pull the beast without any issues.[;)]

Re: Mahindra XUV-500 Facelift Petrol Spotted Testing.

Are the prices of petrol going to be lower than the diesel in future?, because a huge jump of an indian car manufacturer from diesel engines to petrol engines would really mean something which is going to happen in future. May be the petrol prices are going to be lower than diesel as there is more demand for diesel from private vehicles to public vehicles in India so the diesel prices are going to be higher and petrol prices vice versa.

And apart from the prices, if the Xuv 5oo is going to be powered by a 1.6 Lit. Petrol then think of its efficiency with its huge weight. But apart from the efficiency the power delivery will be sufficient.

The engines for the XUV ( for that matter the Aria/Hexa) were both from an Austrian company AVL if memory serves me right
I suspect they might have helped with the petrol version as well?
Bold move though; Have to plaud the pundits at MM for foresight and planning

Actually this 2.2L gas motor with a lower power output (transmission limitations) was available for Scorpio for latin american markets ! Not much of data available online , it's a good move for XUVs middle East and other export markets !

This engine puts out 320nm at 2000-3000 rpm and max power by 4500 rpm. Surely its turbocharged. Its power and Torque curves resemble a diesel engine. How has M&M made Petrol to have Diesel Engine type Torque curve? Design of Bore vs stroke?
