The next-generation Chevrolet Beat for the Indian market is likely to be a heavily upgraded version of the current Beat with extensive exterior and interior changes. GM India has ruled out the launch of the newly launched 2016 Chevrolet Spark (née Beat), as the new M2 platform on which it is based is proving too costly for the Indian market.

“The new Spark is a car for developed markets and the cost structure maybe too high to make it viable in the very cost-competitive Indian market”, said a company official.

The current Beat’s M300 platform will form the base for the next-gen model from GM India, “but it will take lots of bits and pieces from the new Spark” according to a source, hinting that the new infotainment with the large 7-inch touchscreen will be carried over.

The new Spark gets a 1.4-litre all-aluminium engine that is likely to be carried over to the next-gen Beat, albeit downsized to 1.2 litres to avail of the small car excise benefits offered in India. The 1-litre SDE diesel, which is unique to the Indian market, will also power the next Beat.

No time frame has been given for the release of the new Beat but sources indicate a 2017 launch is likely. GM India is working hard to increase localisation levels on the next-gen Beat to make it as cost competitive as possible. Also, India is likely to be a big export hub for GM’s small car production and this could give huge economies of scale, resulting in further reduction of costs.

GM India has struggled in India for nearly two decades and recently its market share plummeted to an all-time low. However, GM isn’t giving up on the market yet, which the company believes will grow to become the third largest in the world. And GM wants to be a part of that growth.

Going by the pics, the updated version will get a better wheelbase which will increase the cabin legroom. The current beat is cramped up at rear. This may be a very good update to the chevy beat considering this the rear passenger legroom.

Nice to hear.Beat is a very practical hatchback. The only issue was the claustrophobic rear bench. This new Beat will be very refreshing .By the way, from the rear, this have some looks of my notorious Celerio.[surprise]

2017 Chevrolet Beat will be available as a notchback – IAB Report

Chevrolet-Beat-sedan-rendering.jpg
Chevrolet has announced that the next generation Chevrolet Beat will be available as a notchback in early 2017, alongside the regular hatchback.
This falls inline with reports from 2014, which suggested that GM India was working on a sub-4m offering to compete against the Maruti Dzire, Tata Zest, Honda Amaze, and Hyundai Xcent.
The 2017 Chevrolet Beat notchback and hatchback will likely be based on the current model’s M300 platform, and borrow design cues from the 2016 Chevrolet Spark, which was recently launched in Korea.

Under the hood, the next generation Chevrolet Beat will be powered by a new 1.0-liter three-cylinder petrol engine (a downsized version of the 1.4-liter EcoTec engine offered in the 2016 Spark) or a 1.0-liter three-cylinder SDE diesel with slight modifications for better fuel economy. Other than a manual gearbox, Chevrolet may also offer an automatic transmission option for higher trims.

Breaking: Chevrolet Teases New Beat for India; Reveals Interesting Details…

New-2017-Chevrolet-Beat-Teaser-Pic-India-752x440.jpg

At the ongoing SIAM Annual Convention in Delhi which is being attended by our correspondent Neelanjan, Chevrolet has teased the Indian version of new Beat hatchback which has already been confirmed for launch in 2017.

Ever since the Next-Gen Spark (international name of Beat) was unveiled, it was expected to make its way into India as well, however, a report confirmed that we will get our own version of the car and true to that story the silhouette of the new 2017 Indian Beat resembles the current production version but has a few traits of the international model.

Key Observations

Here are a few key pointers which we can notice..

As a first the 2017 Beat retains the tall-boy design of the current car.
The sweptback headlamps are all-new and do NOT resemble the international version (nor the current version on sale)
The muscular bonnet creases have been retained.
The nose carries heavy resemblance with the international version. It gets a sleeker grille but a bigger air-dam.
Fog lamp housing also appears to have a resemblance with the international Beat.
The tail lamps also are bulged out, like the international version.
Roof-rails are absent in the teaser pic. They are not present in the international version as well, however, form an intrinsic design element of our current version of Beat.

This appears to be a nice design actually. The international version of Beat is not as striking as the Beat we have right now. Keeping the basic silhoutte similar, Chevrolet can add tidbits from the international version to make it a fresher car.

Chevrolet Beat Activ to be unveiled at the 2016 Auto Expo – EXCLUSIVE

Chevrolet-Teaser-Photo-e1452937478275.jpg

Chevrolet Beat Activ that is the name for the new crossover version that the American automobile manufacturer will be naming its new vehicle. The Chevrolet Beat Activ is based on the new-generation Chevrolet Beat (globally known as Spark). Chevrolet has plans to launch the new-generation Beat Activ in India and this will be amongst first of the India-specific products.

The Chevrolet Beat Activ will be launched in India sometime this year itself as the brand has plans to add more products to its exciting portfolio. Chevrolet is gearing to launch the Beat Activ in India and this will be manufactured at the company’s Talegaon plant. Our sources state that the company should be ready to manufacture the Beat Activ by the second half of this year. The engines on offer are likely to be the 1.2-litre petrol and the 1.0-litre/1.3-litre diesel.

The Chevrolet brand is looking at adding products to its Indian portfolio. Chevrolet even has plans to get the Spin MPV and the SUV-version, which will be launched as Spin Activ. Now, the Spin Activ shares the same Spin chassis, however it has more muscular looks and the spare wheel is mounted on the tailgate. This opens how it does in the Avventura, first slide the frame and then pop open the tail gate. As Chevrolet will be manufacturing these also in Talegaon, we could expect the brand to even share the same vendor for the mounted frame.

The Chevrolet brand will be launching more products based on the Beat, including a compact sedan as well. The other new products that are due to come to India are a new premium hatchback and sedan that will compete with the likes of Hyundai Elite i20 and the Honda City respectively. The new-generation Cruze too is coming to India, which made its global debut last year.

Chevrolet Beat Essentia sub-4m sedan to premiere at Auto Expo

The sedan would share its powertrain lineup with the Beat hatchback.

ET reports that the Chevrolet Beat Essentia sub-4 metre sedan will be unveiled at the Auto Expo 2016 next week. The car which is reported to be under development since 2013 would hit the market in 2017.

The Beat Essentia will be accompanying the soft crossover version the Beat. The mini sedan which will be positioned below the Sail would be aiming to garner some much needed sales volume for the brand. The Chevy compact sedan will be go head on against the Maruti Dzire, Ford Figo Aspire, Hyundai Xcent, Tata Zest and the upcoming Volkswagen Ameo.

The Essentia is reported to adopt the hatchback sibling’s 1.0-litre three-cylinder diesel engine and 1.2-litre four-cylinder petrol engine. A 5-speed manual transmission would be standard.

Visually, the car is expected to follow Chevrolet’s global design language with dual-port grille. The interior design is likely to be carried forward from the Beat hatchback.

GM’s ailing Indian subsidiary is in a dire need of portfolio overhaul. The American automaker recently launched the Trailblazer ladder frame SUV which will be followed by the Spin MPV. In a bid to improve operating efficiency, the company would be shuttering its Halol plant in Gujarat and shift its entire production operations to the Talegoan facility in Maharashtra.

Chevrolet Essentia Concept – Auto Expo 2016

GM India today unveiled the Chevrolet Essentia compact sedan concept at the ongoing Auto Expo 2016. The concept will be put into production as a sub-4m compact sedan at GM’s plant in Talegaon in 2017.

Sticking with the American nomenclature of ‘notchback’, Chevrolet is calling the Chevrolet Essentia a “traditional but richly appointed notchback”. The sub-4m sedan is claimed to be rich in content and in space. The sedan will fit five adults and luggage, GM claims, “without any compromise to style.”
The Essentia concept is underpinned by the familiar platform housing the popular Chevrolet Beat hatchback. The concept has been designed at GM’ Korea Design Studio. The car’s design has seen it travel from GM’s studio in India through to Korea.

GM India has said that the production version of the Essentia will be equipped with the Chevrolet MyLink2, an infotainment system that includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto softwares. Active and passive safety features like dual air bags, ABS and a rear camera will also be provided.
The compact sedan, when rolled out, will compete with the usual suspects Maruti Swift Dzire, Honda Amaze Tata Zest and Hyundai Xcent.
