Except for the ecosport no other ford is using the ecoboost engine.
With indian market shifting towards petrols and irrelevant rules in terms of taxation based on engine displacement I think they should stop projecting it as a niche or halo product and consider it for indian market.
Other markets are getting different variants of ecoboost and we are still stuck with 1.2,1.5 petrol engines.
Hell, the 1.6 sigma felt far more superior than many petrol engines used today.
if a brand thinks out of the box it wont succeed in India unless its affirdable,
I still think Renault Lodgy is a fantastic MPV, light years better than Ertiga and Mobilio, but what happenesd, Lodgy sells so less that its almost dead,
Fiat made a smart handling Punto,Linea, they both are on verge of death.
Tata Bolt and Zest, they are excellent products, but almost dead now
So it dosent matter whether product is good or not if not properly marketed and properly priced and properly judged it will fail in India,
So in that sense Ford is playing a smart but safe game, they know they can never get a market share like Honda,Maruti,Toyota,Hyundai, but they can be better than Fiat,VW,Renault, if they want
So even if we think Ford is aiming Honda, I think their actual aim is to sell more cars than Fiat,VW,Skoda,Renault in each class
And except for the sub 4m micro hatch back segment, in all other segments where Ford has presence its selling better than rivals, like Aspire,Figo,Ecosport and Endeavor,
To fill the gap a huge push is necessary, I think the Mustang will add an image to Ford in tier I and tier II cities, so people will know there is a brand named FORD,
Then they will strengthen Ecosport by launching its face lift as soon as possible, generating an awareness that Brezza may be a Maruti but the big daddy here is Ecosport,
Now the market has some impression of Ford, then they will launch the B500 campaign, to make market dynamic and not forget Ford until B500 is sold under showroom,
In the mean time they will introduce the new Aspire snd Figo facelift with new Dragon series engine to highlight importance of petrol models,
Now the brand has produccts between 4-12 lakhs in full order and a gap between 12 and 25 lakhs of Endeavor , this is where the upcoming B500 based MPV will be stacking up, the new diesel ban will help Ford sometimes as the sub 1.5l MPVs are cheap and cater 75-80% of what Innovas can do,
Then there will be a small gap between 15-25 lakhs,
I belive thats where the new Kuga might land,
I think this is what Ford plans for the next 4 years
