Chevrolet to launch Essentia and Ultiva in 2016.
Both will be based on the Spin, and will be tailored for the Indian car market.

Chevrolet is selling the Spin MPV and Spin Activ (SUV) on this same platform, however for India it will be called as the Essentia and Ultiva respectively.

The Ultiva will be a compact SUV that will compete with the Ford EcoSport.

Both the MPV and the SUV will be trimmed and the SUV will be certainly under 4 metres in length.

The MPV will be a seven-seater and the SUV will be a five-seater. The Ultiva will have a wheel mounted at the rear, but it will be having a swing gate and hatch opeining styling, like the Fiat Avventura. Both will be manufactured in GM’s Halol plant.

Both these vehicles will be powered by a 1.3-litre diesel engine that produces 90bhp of power and about 209Nm of peak torque. These engines will come mated to a five-speed manual transmission. There won’t a petrol option initially but General Motors will be introducing a petrol engine too, once the exports of the Spin twin will commence from Halol plant.

Chevrolet Essentia and Ultiva launch in early 2016

Chevrolet will be naming the Spin as Essentia (for the MPV version) and Ultiva (for the SUV version). Read our previous story in detail. The Chevrolet Essentia and Ultiva will be launched in the first half or maybe even the first quarter of 2016.Chevrolet is preparing to introduce these two UVs in its Indian portfolio as early as it can and both of them will be powered by a 1.3-litre diesel engine that produces about 90bhp and 200-210Nm of maximum torque. These will come mated to a five-speed manual transmission. The Essentia will be a seven-seater, while the Ultiva will be a five-seater and it will have a rear wheel mounted on a frame at the tailgate. This set-up will be exactly like the Fiat Avventura. With these two UVs, Chevrolet will enter one of the fastest growing segments.

The Ultiva might be under 4 metres to compete with the Ford Ecosport and this way.
