Chevrolet to launch Essentia and Ultiva in 2016.
Both will be based on the Spin, and will be tailored for the Indian car market.
Chevrolet is selling the Spin MPV and Spin Activ (SUV) on this same platform, however for India it will be called as the Essentia and Ultiva respectively.
The Ultiva will be a compact SUV that will compete with the Ford EcoSport.
Both the MPV and the SUV will be trimmed and the SUV will be certainly under 4 metres in length.
The MPV will be a seven-seater and the SUV will be a five-seater. The Ultiva will have a wheel mounted at the rear, but it will be having a swing gate and hatch opeining styling, like the Fiat Avventura. Both will be manufactured in GM’s Halol plant.
Both these vehicles will be powered by a 1.3-litre diesel engine that produces 90bhp of power and about 209Nm of peak torque. These engines will come mated to a five-speed manual transmission. There won’t a petrol option initially but General Motors will be introducing a petrol engine too, once the exports of the Spin twin will commence from Halol plant.
