Friends,

An article in HT states that that Toyota has simply avoided the use of AMT transmission sighting the issues of repairs and the costs involved. It believes in providing the conventional Automatic Transmission cars and has firm faith that people are getting conversant with Automatic transmission cars.

“We do believe the market is gradually moving towards automatic cars but we will stick to traditional automatic transmission. Repairing a gearbox costs a lot of money and AMT has higher number of movable parts and may not be as durable,” said N Raja, director and senior vice president, Toyota Kirloskar Motor India.
Now, what is worth noticing is the fact that on one hand, Maruti has several successful hatchbacks running on this AMT technology and TATA too has plans to incorporate AMT in its forthcoming vehicles like Nano etc and on the other side there are examples like Toyota who believe that conventional Automatic are still the 1st choice over AMT.
