Sporty 120bhp Tata Bolt to debut at Geneva; Performance brand to be launched

120 bhp from the 1.2L Revotron engine.
According to a report on Autocar India, Tata Motors is planning to launch a performance brand in the country by the end of this year. An announcement with this regard, with the name of the performance brand, would be made in the second half of this year.

The first car to come out of this performance brand would be the recently launched Tata Bolt. The publication states that the Geneva Motor Show next week will see the debut of a sporty version of the Bolt. Unlike the Bolt display cars shown at the Auto Expo or even select dealerships, the Geneva show car will not be a Bolt with a bodykit strapped on.
Instead, the Bolt’s 1.2-liter four-cylinder turbocharged Revotron petrol engine will produce about 120 bhp, and will come paired to Fiat’s C501 gearbox. The Bolt petrol currently makes 89 bhp from its 1.2-liter engine.

Modifications to the suspension (stiffer damping, lower ride height) will also be seen, as will a flared bodywork with 17-inch wheels.

Re: Tata Motors is planning to launch a performance brand

Tata Motors needs to carefully maintain its image to make it more premium. One thing out of many is to always launch cars which are more powerful than their class cars, and also it should try to maintain power-to-weight ratio to be higher. Tata is moving pawns in many directions. Looks like all for good. Must wait n watch...

Just powerful engine won't make it a hot hatch. Having 120 BHP doesn't justify. It has to accelerate, steer & handle well. The brakes have to be sharp & bite well. The gearbox has to be slick. Bolt doesn't tick any of these criteria's. So that's a real concern and Tata must work on these factors to make it success.
Wish Tata also lower the suspension a bit and reduce higher body roll that Vista/Bolt are known for.

Good to hear some positive news about TA MO. TATA seems to have been taking the right steps in the right direction. With GT twins doing well, the Abarth Punto on the cards, it is a sensible move to get into the hot hatch category. Hope this plan materialises, and not another Indica/vista story. Launching a performance brand would help in shedding the taxi image that has haunted TA MO in the recent past. What would be the torque figure any one?

Tata Bolt Sport – 2015 Geneva Live

Tata Motors will be announcing a sportier version based on the Bolt at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show, called Tata Bolt Sport later in the day. Here are the exclusive details and pictures of what appears to be the first proper hot hatch from the company.

It will be powered by the 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol ‘Revotron’ engine, which now makes 120 hp @ 5,500 rpm and 170 Nm of maximum torque between 2,000 and 3,500 rpm. It comes mated to a 5-speed gearbox, while the car gets disc brakes on all four wheels. Talking of wheels, the rim size has increased to 17 inches now, and it wears 205-section tyres.

The engine gets Multidrive which lets the driver choose between Eco, City, and Sports and benefit from different throttle maps fitting for respective uses. On the outside, the vehicle gets a new grille and projector headlamps, a body kit and sporty rear bumper.

Moving to the interior the car is draped in black leather with red contrast stitching and contrast accents, complemented by the sunroof. The Harman touchscreen infotainment system comes with voice recognition and SMS readout options. It also gets speed dependent volume control. In terms of safety features, the Bolt Sport gets ABS, Corner Stability Control, and dual airbags.

110 PS Tata Sport hatchback showcased at Auto Expo 2016

Goes from 0-100 km/h in 12 seconds.
Tata Motors has released new details of the “Coming Soon” Tata Sport hatchback from the Auto Expo 2016.

The Sport is the first commercial product to come out of Tata’s collaboration with Coimbatore-based Jayem Automobiles, who Tata has worked with for other projects, including the one-off 230 hp Super Nano. The modifications made are visual and mechanical.
The mechanical changes include a remapped 1.2T MPFi engine which, in conjunction with a free flow exhaust, produces 110 PS @ 5300-5500 rpm and 170 Nm @ 3000-3800 RPM. Mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox, this car goes from 0-100 km/h in 12 seconds flat. The suspension has been revised with the addition of re-tuned springs and dampers for both a planted ride and a better stance. The steering now sports a performance calibrated brushless motor for more precise handling.
The wheelbase extends to 2470 mm with the Sport standing 3916 mm long, 1696 mm wide and 1537 mm tall. The fuel tank remains unaltered and can hold 44 liters of fuel.

On the visual front the Tata Sport sports a body kit aiding its performance oriented appearance. The car bears a new grille with air dam, new front and rear bumpers with air vents on the fender, and 17-inch alloy wheels for better performance as well as styling.
The interior has been modified with the addition of sporty pedal inserts with body color embellishments, black leather seats with red detail, leather wrapped steering wheel and gearknob, all with contrast stitching.

Starting from TATA Indica till Safari, they use same model Cluster and Steering. Good to see they bring good modifications.

Bringing out a performance brand is a nice initiative. One more feather in the cap is this car will come with the all new FIAT gear box which will soon debut on the new set of FIAT car as well.

This initiative will not only help in elevating the brand image as a racing car company but also boost R&D helping it to bring in robustness in the components as they will be made to bear all the torture thus will be able to provide long lasting and tough cars. Hope to see the cars soon compete on world wide rally maps. To elevate them further TATA should provide 1.4 and 1.6 petrol engines churning out around 150 and 180 BHPs respectively.
