Tata Motors is planning to launch an all electric version of its highly acclaimed Tata Ace – SCV in 2016.

The electric Tata Ace will most likely become the first electric powered commercial vehicle in the country, once it is launched in the next fiscal.
The regular diesel-powered Ace is priced around Rs. 3,00,000 and the elder cousin the Super Ace costs around Rs. 5,00,000. The Tata Ace Electric’s price is obviously going to be high as the cost of the lithium ion batteries increase the cost of production multifold. The lithium-ion batteries are still not assembled in India and have to be procured from China, thus escalating the cost of all electric vehicles in India.

The electric Ace is expected to weigh around 1,600 kgs and will feature an all steel chassis and an electric powertrain sans a gear box. The diesel version of the Ace is powered by a 700cc diesel engine and can touch speeds up-to 90 kmph, the Super Ace powered by a 1400cc engine can reach up-to 125 kmph whereas the electric version might have a lower top speed of 50 kmph (approx).
