Volkswagen is contemplating a compact SUV for the mass Indian market to take on the Ford Ecosport.




Taigun is dropped due to the cost reasons on bringing a new platform , since Taigun is based on the Up platform.
Also evaluation of the MQB platform it does not seem viabale due to the sacle of investments and the time frame.
Due to the above VW decides to develep a CUV based on Polo. This brings minimum added costs in infrastructure since the production of Polo makes it a great opportunity for parts sahring.
On engines they will use the all familiar and comeptitive 1.5 TDI engine and could heat up the segemnet with the TSI/ DSG combination.

To debut in 2016 Auto Expo a time when most CUV's will be seen inculding the much anticipated YBA from Maruti Suzuki.

In the future we will have a minimum of one SUV in each segment – from the top-line SUV Touareg to MQB-based models and a number of derivatives including a Golf SUV and a Polo SUV. Core markets for the Polo SUV will be China, South America and Europe.”

Volkswagen Polo-based crossover to slot below Tiguan , it will be based on the next generation Polo platform which will use a shorter version of the MQB platform.

Slotting between the unreleased up!-based Taigun and the next-gen Tiguan, Volkswagen's crossover doesn't have a name yet while the design should be influenced by the T-ROC concept.
