The Times of India: Delhi govt bans Uber cab service following 'rape' incident - The Times of India

NEW DELHI: Delhi government on Monday banned all operations by private cab service Uber with immediate effect and blacklisted it from providing any transport service in the national capital in the wake of the alleged rape incident in a taxi plying for it.

The action came a day after a taxi driver employed by Uber was arrested from Mathura for allegedly raping a 27-year-old woman executive in his cab.

"The transport department has banned all activities related to providing of any transport service by www.uber.com with immediate effect. The department has also blacklisted the company from providing any transport service in the NCT of Delhi in future," the Delhi government said in a statement.
It is too much, but bad on the company's part. Thank God TaxiForSure and others are still exist.

As per a news report which I saw in evening today there are 6 brands who have valid commercial licenses to operate cab service in Delhi

1) Chanson

2) Yo Cab

3) Meru

4) Easy cab

5) Air Cab

6) Mega Cab

Apart from them the other's operations/ documentations are under scrutiny.

Also, it has been planned by authorities to start a centralized data recording like U.K.

But, A Question of debate being raised is Why the company is being penalized for fault of driver?

While I would like to be on the company's side, it is believed that the company should have got a little info on his background. Like; he is a repeat offender, his first offence was in 2011. Meaning, usually when a worker is fired no company employs him. And from what I know, Uber has a contract with some other company which provides/provided Uber with cabs and drivers. It would be great if anyone could verify.

Tough luck continues for Uber ..now banned in Thailand too!

BANGKOK: Thailand has ordered US online taxi booking company Uber to cease operations, on the same day taxi apps were banned in the Indian capital New Delhi where an Uber driver is under arrest for suspected rape.

The Southeast Asian nation's Department of Land Transport said drivers picking up fare-paying passengers via Uber's app were neither registered nor insured to drive commercial vehicles, and that Uber's credit-card payment system did not comply with regulations.

Absolutely agree on the background check. It is imperative practice on the part of the employer whether or not a 3rd party is involved. The HR departments need to verify credentials.

I am concerned about their fleet which shall become defunct after their closure.

Scores of patients die in government hospitals because of negligence etc do we see anyone going to jail? This is sheer misuse of power without any thought for the people who will suffer without incomes. The reason this driver was there was probably because of rampant corruption but you can be sure that nothing will be done to tackle this.

Friends, Officially Uber has now launched the Auto Service called "UberAUTO" which shall enable users to book Auto via their app only in Delhi.

THE FINE PRINT

Pricing will follow the fare rules set out by Delhi state authorities.

Fare adjustments are not possible for uberAUTO rides as rides are paid for in cash.

There is no booking fee or additional charge to riders.

You do not need any minimum balance in your Paytm wallet to be able to book uberAUTO.

A valid Uber account is needed to be able to book an uberAUTO ride.

uberAUTO is only available for trips within Delhi. Haryana and UP does not have uberAUTO for now.

Friends,

Radio Cab fleet Uber has now launched a security alert service in Kolkata that shall enable the passenger to be in touch with local authorities like Police in case of emergencies.

"The instantaneous alert contains critical information of the relevant trip and is projected on a dedicated screen in the control room of local law enforcement agency," said Deval Delivala, India Safety Lead, Uber.

Friends,

Uber Cab Service shall be regulated under the Indian motor vehicle act as per ministry of transport.

It was responding to a telecom department query on whether there is a case to ban taxi aggregator services because it was not clear if they are regulated by either the Information technology Act or the Motor Vehicles Act.
