Reports indicate the company is contemplating on the automatic versions of Etios sedan and Etios Liva hatchback, which will bear the fruit within a period of next 10 months.
It is expected that Toyota will be plonking a 4-speed or 5-speed torque converter in both these models, and not a CVT or AMT which is seeing a rapid growth in budget segments.
If Toyota goes this way of equipping both the cars with a torque converter, expect a premium of Rs. 60,000 to 80,000 over their respective manual variants.

I think Toyota is really confused on its strategy in Indian market. Few days back we read a report that they are seeking advise on mass market cars. Another report indicated that they may stop production of Etios twins by 2020.

Now this report on automatic version of Etios sedan and hatch. The Etios is a car with good peppy engine and fine drivability. The plane exterior design and low cost interiors with unconventional console is great drawback. They have been introducing features like seat adjustment, electrical mirrors etc. in bits and pieces. They should completely overhaul the interior design and make some modification on exterior to make it more attractive. This will help them to capture higher market share. The great advantage they have is that Etios twins are known for their reliability and low cost maintenance.

The alternate option is to dump Etios models and bring in new models from their stable outside India.
