Maruti Suzuki to design and develop its own car independent of any support from parent Suzuki, will likely hit the market in 2017 after a total delay of five years.
Currently critical areas like design, engineering, valuation, validation and testing for Maruti Suzuki vehicles are done by Suzuki in Japan. But with every launch Maruti says it is getting more confident in developing products of its own.
The recent launch of the new 1000cc Alto added an example of increased self reliance by Maruti with a significant part of the developmental work done by the engineers of the Indian company.
In order to contain developmet costs the proposed all-new car will be developed using a new platform.
