Terra Motors Corporation, Japan’s leading electric two- and three-wheeler manufacturer, plans to introduce an electric three-wheeler in the Indian market around October this year. It is believed the company will undertake contract manufacturing for the product with a Rajkot-based manufacturer.

Terra Motors is looking to price the electric three-wheeler very competitively against conventional three-wheelers and is banking on offering low operating costs. The existing electric three-wheeler market in India is pegged at 100,000 units.

Terra Motors has showcased its products for the first time in India at the Auto Expo 2014 in Greater Noida, including the T4 electric three-wheeler.

The T4 is powered by a 3.5Kw motor which draws charge from 48V, 120Ah battery. The company offers a option of lead acid as well as lithium ion battery options in the T4. The estimated range, according to company data, is 80km with a total capacity to carry 3-5 passengers excluding the driver.

As for the product line up, 2 to 3 products are being developed for the segment and will be competitively priced
The R6 three wheeler is 2,950 mm long, 1,090 mm wide, and 1,800 mm tall. It can carry a total of 7 occupants (6 passengers + 1 driver) and can attain a maximum speed of 30 km/h. The company claims a 7-hour or above charge time for a full battery charge from 0 per cent, while 80 per cent quick charge can be attained in 2-3 hours. It boasts a 3.2-meter turning radius, comes with rain covers (that can be pulled down), and has a reverse gear, too

Terra Motors, Japanese electric vehicle manufacturer will set up shop in the Indian market soon.

The Japanese brand is looking at setting up around 80 authorised dealerships across India by the end of 2016.

Terra Motors has acquired e-rickshaw homologation certification from ARAI in India. The Terra e-rickshaw meets the necessary active & passive safety standards set by the ARAI.

The R6 rickshaw measures 2,950mm in length, 1,090mm in width and 1,800mm in height. It weighs 278 kg and the battery has a weight of 150 kg. The battery is a 48V 100Ah unit and can run for 100 km on a full charge. The rickshaw has a seating capacity of 1+6 and on a full charge. The maximum incline climbing ability of the Terra R6 is 10 degrees. Top speed of the rickshaw with full load would be 30 kmph.

Japanese two & three-wheeler manufacturer - Terra Motors, has announced the launch of the Y4Alfa e-rickshaw in India.

Terra Motors launches Y4Alfa e-rickshaw; priced at Rs 1.3 lakh
It is powered by Terra battery unit which gives a range of 100 km on full charge. The average weight of the e-rickshaw is 380 kg and can accommodate 5 people, including the driver.

The light weight e-rickshaw is water-resistance and is suitable for sustainable urban transport as it has low fuel costs compared to a gas-powered vehicle.

Adding to its suitability for the Delhi's narrow roads, its steering wheel gives a driver easy maneuver and small turning radius. It also features rain covers that can be pulled down during inclement weather

Terra Motors eyes 30,000 e-rick sales in India by year-end


Japanese electric vehicle maker Terra Motors Corporation plans to sell 30,000 e-rickshaws in the Indian market by year-end on the back of enhanced sales network and new product launches.

The company today expanded its electric-rickshaw range in the country by launching 'Y4Alfa' priced at Rs 1.2 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) and plans to invest around USD 5 million to expand its production capacity and hiring more employees. Terra Motors also introduced Terra battery for e-rickshaws priced at Rs 27,000.

"India is the second largest producer of three-wheelers in the world. Hence, India is an important market for us. We plan to sell 30,000 units of e-rickshaws and 20,000 sets of Terra batteries by the end of this year," Terra Motors Country Director Teppei Seki told reporters here.

The company aims to enhance its dealers network from 13 to around 100 outlets during the year, he added. Terra Motors has a manufacturing facility for e-rickshaws in Gurgaon with an installed capacity of 2,000 units per month. It sells one e-rickshaw model in the country.
