With Honda city's success, Hyundai's Verna run and the upcoming CIAZ from Maruti the C+ segment is being reviewed by Toyota. Also Vento /Rapid selling in the same segment Toyota needs to come to the party as soon as possible.

Considering Toyota already has the Vios sedan in the South East Asian countries, it becomes the obvious choice for India, but that is not going to be the case.Well, it requires huge investments to set-up local manufacturing of Vios, hence this will not be launched in India.

Toyota is planning to launch a new sedan, which will be built on the Etios platform. This new sedan will be more premium than the existing Etios sedan, and will sit between Etios and Corolla.

The new sedan planned for India will follow the company’s new design language offering a sportier and more aggressive stance as seen on Toyota Corolla Altis.
Target customers will be younger and more adventurous band of buyers in the country. Toyota’s upcoming sedan will be offered in both petrol and diesel engine alternatives will receive 1.5 liter petrol and 1.4 liter diesel engines.

Like Maruti, it is now for Toyota Motor who is looking at a mid-size sedan for the Indian market where it will likely take on rival Honda Cars India's City, the top-selling car in the segment.
It will be based on the Etios platform and is internally code-named Etios C or Etios Core. The development work has already begun and the car is expected to hit the market at the end of 2016.
The car will be positioned between Toyota's existing entry-level sedan Etios and the globally popular Corolla Altis. The decision was made after conducting several feasibility studies over the past few years.
