Honda is planning to reintroduce the Accord luxury sedan in India. The first two generations of the Honda Accord were quite a success but sales started slowing down mainly due to the luxury brand effect and the falling rupee. Finally, decreasing margins and changing buyer preference towards more affordable, entry-level offerings from premium brands led to Honda pulling the plug in late 2013. But, Honda thinks customers may be coming back to a more practical way of thinking and the Accord could appeal to Indian customers again.

Contrary to the general trend amongst carmakers, the new Accord will be smaller than its predecessor and will have a slightly shorter wheelbase as well to improve the way it drives. However, while it may be smaller on the outside, Honda’s packaging expertise has resulted in the same amount of room on the inside as the previous car. The new Accord will play on the traditional Accord strengths of comfort and space and in terms of styling, is expected to have a tighter nose in line with Honda’s current designs. So, you will get the same spacious cabin and an all new interior, without the oversized footprint of the earlier car. Other changes under the skin could include a new electric power steering and the chassis will be considerably stiffened for more strength.

The new Honda Accord in India is expected to be powered by a new naturally aspirated four-cylinder, 2.4-litre petrol engine. Power from the 2.4-litre motor is expected to be similar to that of the previous car’s 177bhp. However, since sales of the potent V6 variant never took off, Honda believes there isn’t really a market for the larger capacity Accord.

A 1.6-litre diesel engine that’s expected in the CR-V (Honda CR-V diesel likely in 2015) could make its way into the new Accord but at a later stage. While a 1.6-litre engine may not sound like much for a car this size, the engine is expected to produce a very respectable 30.5 kg-m of torque. The new Accord is expected to hit showrooms by late 2015 and hopefully, with the help of Honda’s local assembly, could be priced competitively.

Re: New Honda Accord Expected By End-2015

Honda Accord Luxury Sedan’s India relaunch to happen in 2015 -(next fiscal year)
Cartoq reports,
In terms of engines and transmissions, the 2.4 liter i-VTEC petrol engine (198 Bhp-234 Nm), which is an India-certainty, gets slightly improved performance and fuel efficiency levels. 6 speed manual and CVT automatic transmissions drive the front wheels of the car. Honda also offers a more powerful 3.5 liter V6 petrol motor and a 2 liter petrol-electric hybrid option. While the 9th generation Accord gets a 2.2 liter i-DTEC turbo diesel engine (148 Bhp-350 Nm) in the UK market, it remains to be seen whether Honda ushers in diesel power for the Accord that will soon arrive here.

The above article mentions that along with Accord, Honda will launch Compact SUV, CRV Diesel, New Small Car in the next 2-3 years.

Honda had certainly ruled out CRV and Accord Diesel for India, but in case they get launched, they would be wonderful choice for buyers.

Re: New Honda Accord Expected By End-2015

After almost 2 years Honda will re-launch their premium sedan to compete and gain an edge over the VW Passat, Skoda Superb and Laura and Toyota Camry. This would be the 4th model of Accord for India as I believe. I appreciate the fact that Honda is keeping an eye over the existing and forthcoming competition but I feel a revamped Civic would have been a winner too. Lets hope for the best. As they say, nothing is permanent except change, So it might be possible that a Civic with a makeover shall make its way to the Indian market.

Honda wants its Accord to be present in its segment as it was the first car which created that segment after Accord, Camry and others came. So why leave out the Segment 1st car is what Honda is thinking alongside keeping its premium image.

I think the reason why Honda isn't bringing Civic is because
1. It isn't designed to take Diesel engine. The Civic sold with diesel engine abroad is different from what we are getting.

2. It's been 3 years since the Civic which is sold currently abroad was launched. Hence bringing it next year when it is about to be phased out globally isn't viable.

3. The segment isn't witnessing growth and it is also one of the reasons why Civic has not launched yet.

So in case, Honda launches Civic here it would be only post 2016 or once new generation has arrived. Just like 3rd Gen City which wasn't designed to take a diesel engine, which is why Honda sold it in petrol guise, the same case is applying here for Civic as well which is preventing Honda from launching it.

2016 Honda Accord Sedan Spied ! No India plans yet!

Caught completely undisguised and in multiple trim levels: four-cylinder Sport, V-6, and V-6 Touring. The hybrid and plug-in-hybrid models weren’t in attendance, so we’re not sure what updates they will receive for 2016.
The 2016 Accord also likely will get significant powertrain updates, particularly in V-6 guise, ensuring that the six-cylinder models are efficient and relevant in an age of ever-stricter fuel-economy standards.

Re: New Honda Accord Expected By End-2015

Friends,

Today I paid a visit to the Honda Showroom to ask for the insurance renewal of my car. Over there, I casually asked their executive of the Accord launch, I am informed it is planned for launch in October last week. Exact date to be confirmed soon.

In this angle the car does not look quite attractive feels asif things have gone awry in design dept.

Generally the car looks the best in 3 quarters angle.
