Mahindra owned Ssangyong group may not enter the lucrative sub-four metre crossover segment in India after all. In an interview with a publication, Yooil Lee, president and CEO of Ssangyong Motor Company said the company does not see any profit in the A-segment.

Lee also said that Ssangyong wants to focus on making SUVs only and wants the brand to be seen as an SUV specialist, like Land Rover. The concept version of the B-segment SUV showcased at the Geneva Motor Show is in the making. The company also showcased the seven-seaterXLV concept which was on display at Geneva, however, the production version may also be offered as a five seater and that’s the configuration it will be sold in Europe.

On being asked about the company working in proximity with its parent company Mahindra on news SUVs, the company boss refused to comment.

Until now it was in the news everywhere that a production version of Ssangyong’s X100 concept will hit the market. This rumour also gives scope for speculation on whether this decision was influenced by parent company Mahindra.

Mahindra considering Ssangyong Tivoli for India

Mahindra considering Ssangyong Tivoli for India, could get new 1.5L diesel – Report

A report on Autocar India states that Mahindra is mulling introducing the Ssangyong Tivoli in the Indian market. The Indian major has not firmed up plans, but is looking at the compact SUV segment composed of the Renault Duster and Nissan Terrano and the soon-to-launch Hyundai ix25 which are key competitors to the Tivoli.

The report further states that if launched, the Tivoli in India could be powered by Mahindra’s all-new 1.5-liter diesel engine which will debut on the Mahindra U301. For the European market though, the Tivoli was launched with 1.6-liter petrol and diesel engines paired to 6-speed manual and automatic transmissions and 2WD and 4WD.
At 4,195 mm in length, 1,795 mm in width, 1,590 mm in height and 2,600 mm in wheelbase, the Tivoli is available with a wide range of personalization options including different shades for the roof, dashboard and different alloy wheels. On the safety front, active roll protection, front and rear disc brakes, 7 airbags, ABS, ESP and Hill start assist are some of the features available on the compact SUV.

Priced between 12,950 to 19,500 pounds (INR 12.73 lakhs to INR 19.17 lakhs), the Tivoli comes with a 5-year limitless warranty. Even if Mahindra decides on launching the product, the company would have to aggressively pursue CKD options with local content in order to keep its prices below the Mahindra XUV500, which starts from INR 11.21 lakhs, ex-Showroom, New Delhi for the W4 variant.

Its a looker. Any idea on Pricing-CARleone
International reviews (Petrol) for the Tivoli are not that great.

Pros
Spacious for its size
Generous standard equipment
Cheap

Cons
Not as striking as the Juke
Quality falls behind the best in class
Bland to drive

Another letdown is the engine. It’s a newly developed, naturally aspirated 1.6-litre petrol unit, but lacks the mid-range grunt of rivals’ engines. Unlike their latest units, it does without a turbocharger.

Here we have the first ever spyshots of Tivoli from Bangalore spotted and shared by one of our avid reader Krishna.

Tivoli is around the size of Duster and Creta and will form an interesting preposition in this segment, just over the TUV300. Engine details are not known at this point but we believe, along with TUV’s 1.5 liter diesel engine, it will also carry a petrol motor, most probably the 1.5 liter engine which Mahindra has confirmed, is in the making!

even if priced at a competitive rate , i wouldn't buy this just because of parts availability. i heard that the rexton sufferd with serious parts shortages.
