Maruti Wagon-R 7 Seater To Take on Datsun Go+

Suzuki had showcased a 7-seater version of its very popular hatch, WagonR, at Indonesia International Motor Show'13 which is now slated to be launched in the Indian market. The concept showcased has been named as 'Karium Wagon R 3 Rows', and is basically an extended model of the existing Wagon R. We, presume it to be the next competitor rising against the yet-to-arrive Datsun Go+ MPV.

Looking at the concept, we can say that there's no change implemented with the ground clearance, while it gets a larger rear quarter glass and rear overhang. Inside the cabin, it seems like there could be lot more done with the spacing and seat height, especially on the third row. Considering the current market scenario, we can expect the low-cost, sub-four metre, MPV segment to garner more popularity in India. These family cars are designed in a way perfectly fit the Indian family size.

There's already Datsun Go+ planned to arrive anytime this year in India. While, we can expect this new Suzuki product to arrive by end of this year or by early 2015.

Looks to be a success.
A sliding mechanism for the middle row will be perfect to make it a better 7 seater than the Go+.

But why would anybody buy this instead of the Ertiga? I highly doubt the price difference will be significant enough.

This vehicle is meant to be a low profile people carrier and it will be something better than EECO.in the price range of 5 to 6 L on road. But with 1 L engine,this may be heavily under powered .Maruti may put 1.2 L K series(EECO) to make it a people carrier.EECO can be retired.

Well its certain that "It is not a replacement of Ertiga "If launched .
Maruti will also not discontinue Ecco cause its popular in Taxi usage and vans .Omni was discontinued because of Ecco .

If launched it may be above Ecco or around Innova !It can be also made to compete against Honda mobilo or Compact SUV like Ecosport Duster .

I feel it doesn't gives confidence to drive this car with 8 people on board. The vehicle structure and dynamics (small size, low ground clearance, low person to overall space ratio) may not work well from safety angle. Under fully loaded condition this vehicle just tends to appear like a share auto where driver makes people to sit in all nook and corner leaving no/little space at floor at all.

It's better our government mandates all the upcoming vehicle to pass mandatory crash tests.

Well, seems to be better than the Datsun Go+ though.
Will suit for small families who want a slightly bigger, flexible car.
Yeah, the engine should be the 1.2K series and would be perfect if there could be a diesel engine too.
I hope MS alters the WagonR chassis to handle the extra weight and length.

The GO+ and the WagonR3 are really 5 seaters with the last 2 rows meant for v small children. The with anyone in the last row there is no space for luggage.
The lack of luggage space mystifies me-how do you take 6/7 people with practically no luggage? The XUV, Ertiga are both high sellers-they also have the same small boots! Perhaps most people do not actually travel long distance with large families or they use luggage racks!

Hope somebody doesn't feel like making 9 seaters by extending the cars!We Indians have created many new segments, compact sedans and compact SUV's', compact MUV's!

I don't think this will replace the Eeco, which is significantly cheaper!

Also, the Eeco has also become a popular cargo van, this won't be able to carry that torch, so to speak.
