To me, the TUV looks like any other Quanto on the road. Not so much, but the Terrano vs Duster thing is felt by me : where TUV looks like the more bling-bling Terrano and Quanto looks like the functional Duster.
Personally I would prefer Quanto's design as even though it is not much striking and aggressive, at least it looks complete. The TUV starts with a sloping design (Range Rover) and in the middle of it, the design is cut FLAT, as if a knife fell on it from the sky!
Had the body length been increased (thus making it even more spacious) and had the designers kept the sloping design till the end and merged it more smoothly, this one would have been a hot selling UV even if priced at 1-1.5 Lac more. Looks do matter a lot in the Indian market, the Aston Martin face of the Ford Figo and Aspire won them many fans. The futuristic styling of the City (after Civic) back in 2011 won it many fans. The Range Rover look of the TUV might have done the same. And the Bolero looked 10 times more rugged than this one! The Sumo Grande looked way better and butch than this one. At least, it had size (bulk) to show off. The TUV looks like the Quanto's sibling. I don't think it is possible to look bad, butch and aggressive while staying under a length restriction.
