CarToq's speculative render of the Ford Figo-based compact MPV
Source:2015 Ford Figo-based compact MPV car in CarToq's render | Cartoq - Honest Car Advice
Ford is putting the previous generation European Fiesta platform to good use. After tweaking the platform to accommodate two new cars – the 2015 Figo hatchback and compact sedan – the car maker is now said to considering a compact MPV on the same platform. CarToq has put together a render on how the 2015 Figo based compact MPV could look like. In India, the Ford MPV is likely to take on the growing crop of compact MPVs such as the Honda Mobilio and the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga. The Ford MPV will be joined in 2016 by a similar product built by South Korean car maker Hyundai.
Since the Ford MPV shares it platform with the 2015 Figo hatchback and compact sedan, it is likely to be built at Ford’s upcoming Sanand factory in Gujarat. The MPV could be powered by a non-turbocharged version of the 1 liter-3 cylinder EcoBoost petrol engine and a 1.5 liter- 4 cylinder TDCI turbo diesel motor that is a standard fixture on the likes of the new Fiesta and the EcoSport crossover. The non-turbo version of the EcoBoost petrol version is expected to make its debut in the Figo hatchback, with a lower power and torque output than the turbocharged version.
Come 2016, Ford India will have one product in each of the big volume segments of the Indian car market, as a part of its 8 product blitz that began with the new Fiesta sedan. While the Fiesta and EcoSport were the first two products in Ford’s 8 new product line up, the Figo hatchback, compact sedan, Figo based MPV and the all-new 2015 Endeavour SUV are four other products that are India bound. With Ford India’s two factories at Sanand and Maramalainagar making for a combined yearly output of more than 4 lakh cars, the American car maker would focus on both the domestic and export markets.
