At the launch of the Nissan Micra Active last September, the president and CEO for Nissan India, Kenichiro Yomura, had told us that a diesel version of the Micra Active is under consideration. Today it appears as if there is good progress in its development with web portal Anything-on-wheels spotting a test mule.

The Micra Active diesel gets the identifiable “Pure Drive DCi” bootlid badge. It is definite that the Micra Active will carry the same 1.5-liter K9K engine that produces 64 hp. The site claims that an ‘XV’ variant was trailing the XL variant mule caught on camera. Whether Nissan will showcase the Micra Active diesel range at the Auto Expo 2014 remains to be seen.

For the Active petrol version, Nissan offers four variants, XE, XL, XV and XV S, with power steering and air-conditioning standard. The XE variant is priced at Rs 3,50,096, and the XV S is priced at Rs 4,89,172 (all prices, ex-showroom, Delhi).

Even with the typical Rs 1 lakh difference between the petrol and diesel variants, the Micra Active diesel could be priced between Rs 4.5 and Rs 5.9 lakh, going head to head with the Chevy Beat which is priced from Rs 4.78 lakh (Ex-showroom, Delhi.)

Nissan to introduce a new 1.2 Diesel engine

Nissam is developing a new 1.2-litre diesel engine has been derived from the existing 1.5-litr K9K engine.

This engine will produce a power of about 55bhp. This engine will be utilised for Nissan Micra Active, Datsun GO and Datsun GO+, n expect Renault to use it for XBA and Datsun for RediGo.

As diesel is still cheaper than petrol, there is still a pull towards this fuel. Maruti and Hyundia's are too working on smaller diesel engines.
