More details pour-in.
Cartoq managed to gather some info in the last couple of days:
-The Tata Nano’s power steering is built by German autoparts maker ZF.
-The power steering is a full-electric unit.
-The decision to use a full-electric power steering on the Nano was taken after considering the fuel efficiency benefits that such a unit would deliver.
-Also, the electric power steering will reduce the load on the car’s 623 cc petrol engine.
-A hydraulic power steering was dropped for this very reason.
-The electric power steering on the Nano is a low cost unit, costing about 6,000 rupees.
-Therefore, expect a nominal price increase of about 10,000-15,000 rupees on the power steering equipped Nano.
-Actual production and deliveries of the Nano equipped with a power steering will begin only in March-April 2014.
-By the end of next year, the Nano is likely to be sold in petrol, CNG and diesel guises, giving the entry-level hatchback buyer plenty of choice.
-A bigger, 800cc engine is also being considered for the petrol engined Nano.
