In a recent interview Ratan Tata mentioned that he was not a big fan of quarterly reports of finances. We are looking at sales month at a time! What we really need to see is if we are heading in the right direction for both the public and the manufacturer. Too often we seem focused purely on numbers and not the big picture.
What are the trends we are seeing overall? People want affordable, reliable cars with good after sales.Maruti ticks all, over and over again. Hyundai seems a tad too expensive-especially ASS
Toyota apart from cost (of the etios, liva and yes even the Innova) seem be just right-imagine all 3 priced a bit lower , to prices that are actually justified!Sales will be through the roof! The taxi lot though seem to have realized the value of reliability and ASS
in toyota . All others seem to be lacking in one of these three
What of Tata-my favourite? well if they loose the Taxi segment-they will officially have to call it a day! They still rule this segment in Tier 2 (BS3) cities, but even this could be ephemeral!
Sadly the elephant in the room is safety.. no other country in the world will allow Airbags and ABS
to be "super luxury" features!
