Sales Performance for car sales in May 2013 indicates a prolonged challenging environment for passenger car OEMs.

May 2013 car sales are down for Maruti by 14% - Maruti Suzuki total sales down 14.4 per cent in May - The Economic Times. More ominously, sale of UVs (Ertiga) is down by 44%. In the compact segment (comprising the Estilo, Swift and Ritz models), Maruti witnessed 29.4 percent fall.

While Hyundai is reporting a minor 2% increase - Hyundai Motor May sales up 2.1 per cent - The Economic Times

And M&M is warning about reduced market share - M&M says growing competition to hit market share | Reuters - ""With so much competition in SUVs now, market share is bound to go down - Pawan Goenka"

I wonder if this will lead to more discounts & promotions in the next 1-3 months; especially given that many OEMs are planning new launches in Aug/Sept 2013.
