TATA MOTORS TO GIVE THE SUMO GRANDE A BIG MAKEOVER WITH INSPIRATION COMING STRAIGHT FROM LAND ROVER’S SUV RANGE
Tata Motors’ future plans for the slow selling Sumo Grande MUV, a product that competes with the likes of the Mahindra Xylo and the Toyota Innova. We even have design sketches depicting how the facelifted Sumo Grande’s will look like. EarthFusion has also managed to snag out vital bits of information regarding the direction that the Tata Sumo platform will take in future. Jump right in to check out the rash of new details about the Sumo Grande makeover,
Tata Motors took Land Rover engineers’ help for the development of the Tata Aria crossover, which happens to Tata Motors’ flagship product. This co-operation will extend to future utility vehicles from Tata Motors and the Sumo Grande makeover will be the first big product that’ll be heavily inspired by Land Rover’s SUV range. The front end of the facelifted Sumo Grande will see a big makeover with the styling clearly taking cues from the new Range Rover. Why, we even have sketches that depict the front end and overall profile of the facelifted Sumo Grande.
These design sketches are the preliminary and will see some level of tweaking in the coming months. However, we can confirm that work on the facelifted Sumo Grande has already begun at Tata Motors and that the MUV will have an aggressive new look that dumps the smiling Tata family face for something more butch and imposing. Under the hood, the 2.2 Liter DICOR turbo diesel engine with the variable geometry turbo charger will be retained, along with the rear wheel drive layout that the current version of the Grande comes with.
Future SUVs in Tata Motors’ range will not just borrow design cues from Land Rover’s range of luxury SUVs but will also have plenty of engineering inputs. The inputs will be used to reduce the weight of Tata UV range and also add a bunch of more feature These changes reflect Tata Motors’ aggressive push to take on Mahindra in the utility vehicle segment, a sector in which the former has been floundering for quite a while now. From being Tata Motors’ strength in the past, the utility vehicle segment comprising of products like the Sumo, Sumo Grande, the Safari and the Aria have become also-rans. It is this decline that Tata Motors wants to revise and the Sumo Grande facelift will be one of the first models to see a big revamp that will eventually filter down to other Tata utility vehicles.
