The probability of Renault entering the Indian four wheeler market within the next week is very high. We hear that the company might be officially launching the Dacia Duster at the Auto Expo. Company officials have not confirm this news yet.

The Dacia Duster is a compact four wheel drive crossover SUV based on the Logan platform. It would not be wise to write off the SUV, for it is quite capable performer on and off road and lives up to its name. In the international market, the Dacia Duster offers buyers two engine options to choose from namely 1.6L petrol engine that produces 109PS or a 1.5L diesel engine that develops max power of 105PS. This crossover SUV is in the good book of many environmentalists. With an aerodynamic design and a low drag co-efficient of 0.30, the Duster delivers an overall fuel efficiency of 16km/l itre and emits just 139g of Co2 per kilometre travelled. With a height of 1.49 metres and width of 1.64m it looks the part too.

An SUV will this mileage figure. Good. So this will be the independent Renault product and with the M&M collaboration.
Coming to its exterior styling, Looks a lot muscular with a unique looking nose and headlamps. Not attractive though.

And I thought we are talking about the chalkboard eraser. It looks cool and muscular. Remind me of Captiva from that rear pose. It should do the trick for Renault to establish a better brand image. Though the question is - Would Renault manage to market it well? On the other hand, there were some talks of Renault - Mahindra JV break up. I hope Renault quickly works upon improving their independent sales network.

Only a 1.6L engine for an SUV. Will this be enough to power the vehicle?? If 16kmpl is a true figure then its really good. And yes the rear profile looks similar to Captiva.

Well Nice design.

Really masculine & mileage figures are huge suprise for an SUV.

If priced right it will be a close shave off for Captiva, Tucson & CRV!

AHI's Observation

AHI's Observation:-First of all I would like to say that as this is seems to be a PS so the original design may be different, but depending on the given pics I have following observation:

1.Front left-end corner view:-
The look is very muscular compared to its size. The outer side ends of the grill-pointing headlights look similar to Mitsubishi Montero-2002-01.The two-tone bumper have a sporty feel.A small all-time towing hook on the left arm of the crashguard over the bumper is a useful touch. The wind diffuser on the lower arm of the crashguard adds offroad feel to this SUV's front look. The ORVMs have Ford Fiesta feel. The foglamp enclosure could have been more attractive with some chrome or aluminium touch. The roofrails have dated feel that of Hyundai Tucson. The twisted spokes of the alloys look good. The front seat headrest seems to have holes like Opel Astra(as seen on the driver's seat)

2.Rear left-end corner view:-
The look from this angle is very muscular with those big wheel arches. The side footstand is not looking matched with the side look, rather if they have introduced some good muscular makeover of it,it would have worked. The rear end look similar to Chevrolet Captiva. There is only one endcan, that means the engine is not that much powerful compared to captiva or any other high performance SUVs in India.Again the wind difuser on the lower end of the bumper is imparting a good offroad feel.

Overally the SUV is not bringing lots of expectations as far as design is concerned, its just as an usual SUV around the corner, except the muscular body contours.Let see what it brings under the hood and inside the cabin.Hope it will be a VFM SUV as per Vibhor's datas.May Renault put a competitive price tag to stand in the competition.

Re: Renault may launch Duster at Auto Expo

It will not bear the Dacia badge, but the Renault badge.

We’re used to calling the Duster as a Dacia SUV because Renault had not taken the effort to slap the silver diamond on the car.
That’s going to change as Renault officially has its own version of the Duster expected in the middle of 2012 here in India. Sources in Renault India noted that none of their products will bear Dacia logos even if they are products picked from the Romanian company’s model pool. The model you see here will be the car landing in India.

The Renault Duster will be officially launched at the Auto Show in Buenos Aires this month and differences are both to the exterior and interior. The car gets a completely new face soaked in chrome. South American customers will be able to order wheels painted gray. Interiors are constructed using improved material according to the car manufacturer. The center console has been redesigned is different to the model sold in Europe.
In South America the Renault Duster will have two engines, both having capacity to operate on alternate fuels, much in demand in Brazil. The 1.6 16V and 2.0 16V will be on sale, the former will have an optional automatic transmission listed while the latter is available with 4WD. These two engines will not be suitable for the SUV market in India. The 1.5-liter diesel engine (K9K) from Nissan Micra is the obvious choice, making about 85bhp.
Renault will manufacture the Duster at the Renault-Nissan JV Oragadam plant and leaving out powertrain components, everything else is likely to be sourced locally. Exports could be part of the plan and RHD markets could be on the radar first. The question is will Renault split the output into two equal halves or will they mark the majority of the production for India. The Duster, if priced between 8-10 lakh rupees, will draw heavy crowds into Renault showrooms.

Well if they manage to price it around the 8-10Lakh region they may draw some customers. But they have to remember they are going to compete against the Indian giants Scorpio and Safari in this segment.

BTW i don't like the looks of the car!

@ cool

I would close my eyes and buy it if it comes at that price.

EDIT: Maybe I wouldnt, as the nearest service centre and dealership is 250 km away.

As per the report of the ACI, Renault has confirmed the launch of its economy SUV Duster in the second half of 2012. For more read the following report.

Renault has confirmed that it's budget SUV the Duster will be launched in the Indian market. The SUV is expected the in second half of next year.
The Duster shares its platform with the Logan (now Verito) saloon. It will feature the 1.5-litre diesel motor which will be updated to deliver 107bhp and will come mated to a six-speed gearbox. Renault recently showcased the Duster at the Buenos Aires Motor Show with upgraded interiors; this should be seen on the Indian-market Duster as well.
Renault has been tightlipped about the Duster as they were targeting an aggressive price tag which required many meetings with suppliers to get parts at the right price. The Duster will be produced at Renault's Chennai plant. The Duster is expected to be priced between Rs 7-8 lakh.
Renault has plans of launching as many as five vehicles in a period of just 15 months. The French car-maker has already launched its flagship; the Fluence last month, the next offering is the Koleos premium SUV that will take on the likes of Honda's CR-V, Mitsubishi’s Outlander and its sibling the Nissan X-Trail. Renault also revealed that it also has plans to manufacture a compact car that will be built on an Alliance platform.
Renault currently has 14 dealerships in India and aims to increase this number to 40 by the end of the year and reach 100 by end of next year.

1. I think the diesel will be the volumes seller rather than the petrol.
2. Also, what are the dimensions of the Duster?

What i feel is that the Duster would have the dimensions similar to what Tuscon had.
