Yeah, similarly my opinion is based on the BHP/Torque etc, not on number of cylinders because as far as the one cylinder is going to be less then 400BHP, total number of cylinders don't matter much, atleast in today's scenario.
I don't own this car but I have driven this 3 cylinder petrol Polo and I must admit that it is the car which engine note I liked the most in this segment. Another thing which was above my expectation was that it is a very rev friendly engine, I also didn't expect considering history of old 3 cylinder engines i used. Yeah, at idling, it gives hint of being coarser but not irritating.
Other then the note, it is a torqy engine. Only downside I found is that I don't hear FE figures as expected.
For instance here are figures:
this engine produces 75PS@ 5400RPM compare to 68PS@6000 of Punto 1.2
Torque is 110 @ 3750 compared to 96@2500
And there was a 1.6 version also sometimes back but company has to stop that because of low demand, similarly there used to be a Palio 1.6 but that also wasn't accepted here.
