As can be seen from the pictures, the car is wearing an AMG Sport Pack, identifiable by the distinct front bumper and additional trim-bits on the exterior point it to be as an AMG sport version of the GL. The AMG Sport package consists of 21-inch alloy wheels, perforated 19 inch disc brakes, custom front and rear AMG bumpers, flared wheel-arch extensions and illuminated running boards.

The model likely to be launched here is the GL 350 CDI powered by a 2987cc turbo-common rail diesel motor which is good for 255bhp and 63.2kgm of torque mated to a 7-speed G-Tronic automatic gearbox. Initially, all GLs will be imported as completely built units. Like the smaller M-Class, Mercedes plans to assemble the GL in India from SKD kits imported from the USA by end of this year.

Re: New Mercedes GL Class Caught On Test

New Mercedes GL coming your way

Merc’s hardcore off-roader, the GL, is about to get a facelift and expect it to be in the dealerships by May end.

Mercedes has shown the facelifted GL on its Indian website with the specifications and prices. The GL is available only with a 3-litre V6 diesel mill that it has in its current avatar. The output is rated at 221bhp of power and an earth-shattering 510Nm of torque mated to a 7-speed G-Tronic auto ’box. It’s the only engine that Mercedes has listed on their website. What happened to that GL500?

On the outside, the boxy look remains unchanged albeit some added curves to slip through air better than before. The huge grille still gets two horizontal slats like the current one. The rear too goes under the knife to make it look sharper than before.

Fortunately, the decade-old insides have made way for ones that look way pleasant to eye. The new GL will get new gadgetry and an updated COMAND system (in-cabin media interface). New colour tones for the dashboard will be made available unlike the current’s all-black. Now, the panoramic sunroof extends right to the third row.

Mercedes’s website says the GL350CDI Luxury is pegged at Rs 69.36 lakh and the GL350CDI Executive is priced at Rs 73.86 lakh. Both prices ex-showroom.

Re: New Mercedes GL Class Caught On Test

Mercedes-Benz to launch new GL on May 16

Mercedes-Benz has announced that the 2013 model GL will be launched in the Indian market on May 16. The new GL is an improvement over the current model rather than an all-new car, but the looks have changed substantially; it now resembles the current M-Class, and daytime driving lights have been added to the front.

The 2013 GL350 CDI is 90kg lighter than the current model, and is also 20 per cent more fuel efficient in the European driving cycle, despite higher power and torque figures. This should no doubt make customers happy. It also has on the options list surround view, which utilises four cameras mounted around the car to give a 360 degreee view to the driver via the screen in the dashboard. The third row of seats is folded or brought up electrically as standard, which is a good addition.

There are also other changes like the electrically-assisted steering, electric parking brake and our favourite - an optional audio system from Bang & Olufsen with a total output of 1200W from 14 speakers.

The price of the new GL will be more than the current one, of course, but for the exact figure we'll just have to wait for the launch.

New Mercedes GL Class embarks on a preview mission ahead of its launch

The 2013 Mercedes GL Class is the first move of the year from the German car maker in India.

According to online reports, the car is slated to be launched on May 16th. The online promotion campaign also started rolling with a contest which could win you a date with tennis legend Boris Becker.

Our friends at Oncars.in report that Mercedes has started previewing the premium SUV to select clientele. The seven seater is reportedly being taken to important Merc dealerships across the country.

The India spec SUV will be the GL350 BlueTEC 4MATIC variant. The car is powered by a 3.0 litre diesel engine which generates 255 bhp and a commendable 620 Nm of torque. The SUV is equipped with a new 4MATIC all wheel drive system.

From the spyshots we can see that the SUV uses chrome wherever it is possible. The front twin slated grill, the air splitter in the front bumper, foglamp enclosures, window line, a part of the rear bumper, a strip on the tail gate are all finished in chrome.

The Mercedes GL Class will be initially imported as a CBU from the company’s Alabama plant but will eventually be assembled locally. The luxury SUV will be competing with the likes of the Audi Q7 and the BMW X5.

Today, Mercedes Benz has launched the second generation GL Class in India in presence of the well-known tennis champion, Boris Becker at Mercedes Benz’s brand new flagship store in Delhi, T&T Motors. The car’s ‘launch edition’ which is produced only in 100 units is available at a price tag of Rs.77.5 Lakh (Ex. Showroom, Delhi). Mercedes will begin locally assembling this car as soon as in September 2013. I’m attaching the press release for further details. Those who need specific information, brochure scan etc. let me know.

Mr. Eberhard Kern, MD and CEO, Mercedes-Benz India said, “2013 is the ‘Year of Offensive’ for Mercedes-Benz India and we are excited to present the all new GL-Class to our valued customers. Exclusivity and dynamism are two of the most enigmatic features of an ultimate SUV and the GL-Class imbibes both these as it established the SUV image of Mercedes-Benz in India with its launch in 2010. We have already succeeded with the new M-Class and now the introduction of the new GL-Class will further strengthen our dominance in the Luxury Large SUV segment. The GL-Class with its proven off-roading prowess and luxurious appointments exudes the Absolute Supremacy statement during on and off-road situations and is ideal to suit the taste of the growing number of off-roading aficionados in India”.

The level of spaciousness and comfort in the new GL-Class underlines its position as the S-Class among SUVs. The New GL-Class exudes confidence, distinctive and powerful exterior design, exceptional comfort and highest handling dynamics in on and off-road situations. The new GL-Class also comes with a full 360 degree surround camera, another first, from the Mercedes-Benz portfolio.

With the most spacious interior, a benchmark in the Luxury Large SUV segment, the New GL-Class has the easiest front and rear seat access with Easy Entry system on both sides. The daytime LED running lights are integrated into the front bumper. With more enigmatic head and tail lights the GL-Class is more appealing and in line with the new design philosophy. The new sporty unique light-alloy wheels and two piece tail light with LED optic fibre cable adds to the robust appeal of this massive SUV. With its 630-1252-2300 liter boot capacity, the new GL-Class offers maximum flexibility and space. The third row offers ample space to seat full-sized adults comfortably- yet another unique feature of this SUV. The interiors are made of finest materials and a touch of elegance in the design with open pore wood trim, a first time in India makes the new GL-Class even more refreshing to drive. The legendary safety capabilities of Mercedes-Benz are fully incorporated in the new GL-Class. The new GL-Class is enhanced with state of the art technologies of the likes of DSR, ESP, 4ETS, 4MATIC, AIRMATIC, etc.

Mr. Boris Becker, tennis legend and true Mercedes-Benz aficionado elaborated, “The GL-Class is the cornerstone of achievement for anyone across the world. It is a true blue SUV and the ultimate machine for off-roading. My association with Mercedes-Benz goes back to more than two decades. I identify with the values of the Mercedes-Benz brand – fascination, perfection and responsibility. I enjoy going for off-roading with my family I believe that the GL-Class is a perfect companion on those tracks. It is my pleasure to be a part of the launch of this majestic vehicle, here in India.”

The New GL-Class is truly a class apart for the 14.8% lower fuel consumption. The ECO start-stop feature reduces fuel consumption and emissions by automatically switching off the engine in life in traffic. The V6 diesel has options like the AIRMATIC package for better ride control which helps in getting over the toughest of roads and worst terrains. With integrated PARKTRONIC the vehicle can warn difficult to detect obstacles in front of and behind the vehicle and helps the driver when searching for a suitable parking space for parallel parking, and support him through active steering when parking. Besides ruling the roads the new GL-Class also gives the best view of the sky as it comes with the panoramic sunroof including a sunroof even for the third row of passengers, creating a larger transparent area and brighter interior. The vehicle also features latest multimedia COMAND like the Bluetooth ® interface with hands-free function, 7.0 inch Color display with TFT technology as well as Internet browser and GPS.

Mercedes-Benz always gives prime importance to safety and the new GL-Class with the Pre-Safe ensures that vehicle reacts and prepares itself before any possible collision and with nine airbags it is one of the safest vehicles for the tumultuous off-roading, city and highway rides. The Attention Assist helps the driver as soon as it detects signs of drowsiness on longer trips by continuously monitoring over 72 different parameters of driving behavior while there is an additional “Crosswind assist” as further assistance to driver support.

The new GL is available with the optimized, upgraded V6 diesel engine. The powerful off-roader is unrivalled in its segment with its variety and innovations. The 2987cc engine produces 619Nm of torque @ 1600-2400 and a power 190/258 @ 3600rpm. Great pics [clap]. The new GL looks good, strong yet subtle & isn't too loud. Nice combo of play & party. I had seen older GL but I didn't like much of its looks & yes, the interior in this version is really upgraded one, much better than outgoing GL. I had expected them to price it between 65-70L though. And ofcourse, one who wants brute SUV, he will buy Range Rover Sport, which costs about the same. None the less, this Merc GL is far better than Audi Q7 or BMW X6.
