India's largest car manufacturer Maruti Suzuki India is now working on its first small hybrid car, which will have both electric and petrol options. The information has been disclosed by two senior officers of the company while speaking to CNBC- TV 18, the said small car is being co-developed by Suzuki Japan's engineers together.

The officers have further said that the project is in the initial stage, so they aren't sure about time of the launch, however they made it clear that the company is serious about launching such a vehicle in the Indian market. Maruti Suzuki India that doesn't have any electric vehicle in India, now believes that the hybrid vehicles are surely the future of automotive world.

But till now the batteries are that good enough . This is my personnel opinion .
Have seen two wheelers running in batteries and they spent as much as they would spent for petrol in that particular time.
May be air car which is now being under development may work in the future.

Maruti Suzuki aims to make hybrids affordable, offer technology on cars from Alto to Swift hatchback.Maruti is aiming to make hybrids affordable and wants to offer the technology on cars right from the Alto, the cheapest in its product portfolio, to the Swift premium hatchback over the next three to four years.

A large part of the development is happening in Japan and key inputs from Indian R&D engineers are also being absorbed. The idea is to offer a technology to the mass with not a major price difference over existing petrol cars
The Japanese parent of India's No. 1 car maker by sales, has already started working on the hybrids. Maruti has communicated the need for a suitable hybrid car for India as well

Hybrid cars from maruti Suzuki

Few weeks back lot of news came down like most fuel efficient petrol electric hybrid cars are coming to alto, wagon r soon. Also modi govt is said to bring 35% subsidy for hybrid cars. I hope this will make a huge impact on electric cars in Indian roads.

But no scoops or no news about hybrid cars and subsidy seen in an news now. What do u think is the need of the hour in India? Is it really a hybrid car? And if anyone got any news regarding any, do input the same. One last question. Do all these hybrids have automatic transmission or manual is also available?

I wish to see Nissan leaf, volt etc to run through our roads rather than BMW i3/i8.

Thanks..

Re: Hybrid cars from maruti Suzuki

Hybrid cars are really needed because their Fuel is a Renewable Resource whereas petrol is an Exhaustible resource. It will reduce pollution by an Enormous Amount ! Most and very importantly,Their Fuel will be much more cheaper than the Already skyrocketing prices of Petrol ! Their Price also won't raise much.Kudos to Hybrid Cars !

Maruti to launch Swift Hybrid in 2017.
Suzuki has begun work on low cost hybrid technology with India being its most dominant market for these products.
The Swift might then be powered by a smaller diesel engine, possibly the recently developed two-cylinder 800cc one that will power the Celerio also. The Swift along with this small engine and electric motor will return a higher fuel efficiency figure and will reduce the hatchback’s running cost drastically.

Maruti will be looking at getting multiple hybrid cars.

Wagon-R-CNG-11.jpg

Maruti Suzuki is gearing up to introduce the next-generation products with a hybrid powertrain. Maruti Suzuki’s next-gen Swift, Wagon R and other several products shall be getting hybrid powertrains.

The next-generation Wagon R, which is due to be launched next year will be having a hybrid version too. In the initial stages of the launch only the five-door, five-seater Wagon R will be introduced. Later on the seven-seater version shall follow. Suzuki has been working on hybrid powertrains, especially at manufacturing them at a substantially lower cost in India.

Expect Suzuki to produce hybrid vehicles in this plant. The Swift and the Wagon R both will have the same 660cc engine with a hybrid powertrain.
The 660cc engine will be the same engine that will also power the new-generation Alto that is due to be launched in 2017. Maruti Suzuki will be utilising this engine across its portfolio and shall have turbo and non-turbo (naturally aspirated) engine options depending the vehicle’s size and price tag. This engine is commonly used by the company in Japan and is due to come to India sometime next year.

Exclusive - Electric Maruti Suzuki Wagon R Spotted Testing Ahead of Launch Next Year

Electric-Maruti-Suzuki-Wagon-R-2.jpg

The images show distinctions like the 'EV' badge at the back as well as subtle differences like a top-mounted windshield viper for the rear. At the front, there's another 'Electric Vehicle' badge and the interesting, dual-style headlamps. Overall, the car's design is a lot boxier and also smaller than the current-generation Wagon R. Furthermore, it is known that the electric Wagon R will be using Lithium-ion battery pack, for which the battery technology has been developed in collaboration with Toyota and Toshiba. However, according to spy images of the petrol-powered Wagon R launching soon and electric Wagon R, it is easy to deduce the fact that both cars are quite different from each other when it comes to the exterior.
