The Tata Nano which started out as the most ambitious project by the veteran Ratan Tata, never really managed to take off well due to some inherent flaws which were rectified later on, but it was probably a little too less and a little too late. But the engineers and marketing team back at Tata Motors think otherwise and are working to raise the appeal and aspirational value of the car.

According to Hindustan Times, the Tata Nano is about to get a makeover that will make it bigger, stronger and a bit costlier than the current model and at the same time relieve it of the cheapest car tag. Tata motors is planning to fit the Nano with a stronger heart than the 624cc petrol heart it currently has. It’s nearest rival, the Alto has 796cc engine and to beat that, Tata motors is planning to fit the Nano with a 966cc engine. This rumor goes in hand with the speculation of an 800cc petrol Nano.

Tata is also rumored to be strengthening the chassis of the car so that it could hold more weight. Tata Nano has also been suffering because it has been limited to being a city car due to its lesser powered engine and with a new and a stronger engine, all that might just change. It is considered a cheap car in India which is gravely wrong as its top model costs just a few thousand rupees lesser than the Alto’s base variant.

This rumor is based on a statement by a component maker which stated that,”They (Tata) also hinted that there could be a version of the car with a boot as well. All this will surely entail an increase in the price, as Tata does not want it to be seen as a cheap car anymore.”

Well this statement surely comes as a revelation and a Tata Nano sedan shall definitely be something which might give the brand Nano the success it has always deserved. But then again, till something more concrete arises we would consider these are mere speculations and take them with a fistful of salt.

My God...already the compact sedans have degraded the status of sedans in India and now this is a bit too much.
Is this thing really coming any ways??
I think Tata has gained some kind of love for adding boot to hatches..first Indigo, then Indigo CS then Manza and now this!!

Bro What I fear the most is, if this sees the production than maybe in a year or so we might have to face a NANO Sedan CS too. [surprise]

Please please please tata motors don't come up with something as silly and funny like this , upgrade the nano has a hatch , adding a boot to nano can be the most worst thing that can happen in automobile designing .

Agree.just for a couple of centimeters of boot space it does not make any sense. And its not possible because its a rear engine car. Some think that the photoshoper forgot.

Generally I refrain myself to make harsh or sarcastically funny comment but Tata engineers are helping me to break my shackles.

Please show some respect to Ratan Tata and do not spoil Nano as Nano is a good product. Better to improve Nano rather bringing a Nano sedan as Nano itself is not a hatch.
