Tata Nexon considered for Australia

10 Attachment(s)
The Nexon is based on the Vista’s platform.
Tata Motors has ambitious plans of launching many vehicles in the Australian market in the next 3-4 years and notable among them would be the Tata Nexon mini SUV, Darren Bowler, CEO, Tata Motors Australia told the media recently.
Attachment 154638The Nexon was unveiled at the 2014 Auto Expo, and the company announced that it would introduce it in India in 24 months.

“Tata Motors is looking at the Nexon as a global car; there’s still a lot of work going into that and we’re looking at how we can have that car developed for the Australian market. It’s still some way off but it’s an opportunity for us,” he told Australia’s Motoring when discussing cars that were probables for the Australian market in 3-4 years.
The Tata Nexon concept car was showcased at the Auto Expo early in February this year. Subsequently, the concept was also unveiled for Europe at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show and at the 2014 Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS 2014). Tata Motors is planning to start production or showcase the production version in February 2016 (24 months from the unveiling of the concept).
The mini SUV concept has 1.2L petrol engine and electric rear wheel drive option for 4WD operation, though the latter is unrealistic for the production car. The three-cylinder engine develops 110 PS (108.49 bhp) of power and 170 Nm torque, and returns a fuel efficiency of 17.6 km/l. The four-meter long vehicle has a 5-speed automatic transmission system and will come with an electric 4WD system.
Attachment 154643Tata’s design head Pratap Bose told IAB that the production Nexon would preserve most of the concept’s design. [Image: Production model rendered by IAB’s in-house artist Shoeb.]

Essentially, the idea of mini SUV was conceived by Tata Motors, keeping in mind the big volume market of India. Yet, the company was particular that the product should have universal appeal. However is Tata Motors entering into an already crowded Indian SUV market? Are they really late for the party? While speaking about the aesthetics and performance of Tata Nexon, Ranjit Yadav, the then President for passenger vehicles, Tata Motors told IAB in July: “some people would argue you are coming to the party a bit late, but what we have in the vehicle will make us come well. We will still win, because that’s what we have built into the vehicle.”

Tata's < 4m CUV could debut in early 2016.
Attachment 157853
The SUV will be powered with 1.2 Revotron petrol engine mated with 5-speed manual and automated manual transmission options. Apart from this, the company could also offer this vehicle with an electric power assisted steering system with active return function that redefines the driving dynamics. The pricing for the new Nexon will be kept with a reasonable price tag between 9-10 lakhs. This would a clear competitor for the Ford’s Ecosport and the Renault duster. The launch would be mostly in early 2016.

Tats's is speculated to be benchmarking Toyota's Rush for performance of Nexon.

This is great news and am longing to see the vehicle in flesh, like many others here on this forum. Am also desperate to know the features on the new offering.

But will they be able to launch the car by early 2016? The Vista Xtreme with GC of 205mm should have helped them do some ground work for the Nexon. Secondly how authentic this piece of news is to be verified.

Tata Nexon mini SUV to sport styling cues from Range Rover Evoque – Report
Quote:

The Tata Nexon mini SUV, which is announced to launch early next year (Tata said it will take 24 months to take the Nexon from concept to production) will reportedly look “like a mini Evoque”, sources told Autocar India.
Quote:

Codenamed X104, the report states that the Nexon will have a sharply tapering roofline, which may affect its rear seat space, but is supposed to appeal on the styling front nonetheless. To give it a butch stance, the Nexon will ride on large 17-inch wheels with wheel arches having suitably been enlarged to accommodate them.
Quote:

Based on the Vista’s platform, which also underpins the Tata Zest and Bolt, the Nexon would share components such as the steering, suspension and some interior parts with these cars. The Nexon would not share the 1.2-liter petrol and 1.3-liter diesel engines that powers the Zest and Bolt though.
Quote:

Instead, the diesel engine is reported to be a 1.5-liter unit matched to a new 6-speed manual transmission with an expected power output of 110 bhp. The petrol, would be a new all-aluminium, three-cylinder 1.2-liter engine capable of about 75 bhp.

So, it's confirmed as I thought. X104 is the codename for Nexon concept sub 4 m SUV. Now the mods may merge two threads running on the same topic.

Re: Nexon: Tata Motors Compact SUV Based on X1 Platform

Tata X104 coming in next year. Will be showcased at the auto expo 2016. Launching in mid 2016.

The X104 will be a five-seater and will be powered by a 1.2-litre petrol and a 1.3-litre diesel engine. “The X104 will come in three variants and will have a Range Rover Evoque-like design.
Tata Motors will be using the X0 platform, on which the Bolt and the Zest are built. But the biggest USPs of the X104 will be its styling and interior features.

Quote:

The X104 will be powered by a 1.2-litre turbo petrol producing 90-100bhp of power and will come with multiple driving modes. The diesel will be a 1.3-litre with 90bhp of power and 210Nm of maximum torque. The X104 will also get an AMT option, as Tata Motors will increase its AMT capacity as well.

Re: Nexon: Tata Motors Compact SUV Based on X1 Platform

Tata Motors will introduce their first compact-SUV, the Nexon in FY17. This product was first revealed at the 2014 Auto Expo in concept guise and could hit the production lines anytime next year.

Seems as usual Tata will be a late entrant in this space. Need to see the market dynamics when the CUV market will be nearly saturated.

getting it spot on is key. The sales of the i20 is a case in point-high end hatch, but very well crafted; terrific sales. It appears Hyundai have learnt that lesson. Hope the nexon and others to follow are very very well engineered and 'finished'.

right now Compact SUV's are fliped into two segments one is sub-4-meters compact SUV(EcoSport,NEXON Concept and maruti YBA) and two little bit bigger >4meters Compact SUV(duster,Creta)

both these SUVs have price difference of around 2.5Lacks I feel that tata should look on both these segments using almost similar components first product TATA NEXON sub-4m suv(with limited boot size like EcoSport) price range from 6lacks to 10lacks and next TATA NEXON Plus >4m ( duster like bigger boot) price range from 7lacks to 12lacks if tata managed to bring two products using one car thats going to be help in good combined sales of 4k to 6k per month

@GBR thats right however if taken into account that they are hitting the market in FY017 then it would be too late as the market would have saturated by then with ecosports, dusters, creta and S cross TATA should have launched it this year or atleast the first quarter of FY016

Incarnation, first quarter of FY16 is already over. That was from 1st April 2015 to 30th June 2015.
Now we can expect Nexon in FY17 first quarter that is the period between 1st April 2016 and 30th June 2016. Or more probably by August-September 2016 (2nd quarter of FY17)

To discuss in precise there are three SUV in making from the TATA stable
Nexon - Sub 4 meter SUV
Q501 - > 4 meter SUV Creta rival
Q 502 - Will be a XUV 500 rival
apart from this
Safari Storme - Scorpio
HEXA - Innova Rival

Q501 and Q502 SUVs may have chance to little bit higher in price compare to its rivals because they are based on Freelander2 platform not only that its takes long time to hit into production version they currently in development stage. So to fill that time gap and price gap tata should consider two SUVs based on Nexon Concept with identical design with different lenght

Nexon may be possible, but again to develop new platforms and rigorously test them, they will also take huge amount of time. Please note that they are not on completely new platforms. Again they are just like the Zest, Bolt, Hexa and the Kite twins which are based on previous gen platforms. That mean development time is quite fast. Testing of Q series cars will start may be in a few months time as the design has been frozen and vendors have been called in. so shortlisting should have already done by now. So expect the test mules by nov-dec this year.
