Re: Nexon: Tata Motors Compact SUV Based on X1 Platform

So what does this site says about Nexon:

DESIGN CONCEPT NEXON A New Compact SUV Concept Car

Bold, elegant and sporty compact SUV
Dynamic, smart-boosted new generation petrol engine
Electric-4WD option
Sub-4 metre long segment leading concept car

The Design Concept NEXON, a Compact SUV with a dynamic 1.2L Smart-Boosted petrol engine and electric rear wheel drive option for 4WD operation, brings another exciting and segment defining concept car from Tata Motors.
From the nimble performance of a boosted, yet refined, 3-cylinder petrol engine sporting an impressive 170 Nm torque, 110 PS power, a frugal fuel consumption of 17.6 KMPL, and 4WD maneuverability of the newly-developed electrically driven rear-wheel drive system- the Design Concept NEXON's destined to be a fun-to-drive vehicle for the discerning customers wishing to stand out from the crowd.

It is a modern, youthful and bold segment buster which cuts across a range of mundane 4- metre long SUVs to give a stylish and dynamic drive with a top speed of 180 KMPH on highways with an option of additional torque and 4WD maneuverability by the electric rear axle.

The Design Concept NEXON is inspired by city concrete greys contrasted against a sapphire blue sky, giving it a clean, minimalist and modern look. The bright blue exterior mirrors the depth of a flawless gemstone, catching the light to reveal a vibrant and shimmering sapphire blue appearance. The interior contrasts a neutral grey and white lower environment with accents echoing the exterior colour harmoniously.

Carrying forward the distinctive signature DLO (day-light opening), created with the Megapixel Concept, and the speedy beltline that cuts horizontally to emphasis the floating roof, the Design Concept NEXON struts a slim and elongated body with a dynamic silhouette that emphasises the compact and sporty design.A bold new expression of the signature wrap-around mask, introduced in the Megapixel, elegantly encapsulates a more dominant front grille incorporating innovative lens-less LED lamps designed explicitly to maximise the visual width of the front end and imparting a more rugged expression.

Features:

Newly developed electrically driven rear-wheel drive system
2WD manoeuvrability of the electric rear axle for urban and town driving
Clean, minimalist and modern look
Bright blue exterior with the depth of a flawless gemstone - sapphire blue appearance
Unique DLO (Daylight opening)
Speedy beltline that cuts horizontally to emphasise the floating roof
Slim and elongated body with a dynamic silhouette
Signature wrap-around mask
Innovative lens-less LED lamps
Water line that cuts through the lower body of the car with undercut surfaces
Prominent wheel arches
Aerodynamic front pillars
Large windshield area for all-round visibility
Panoramic glass roof
Double-sliding door system
India Global Jali pattern
Exaggerated front fog lights
Uniquely proportioned cab forward design
‘Floating’ IP within a wrap-around tub
‘Full Width’ IP display screen features a segment first rear projection
Front seats mounted on a structural bridge connecting the sills and ingeniously aiding torsional rigidity
Foldable rear seats for a flat load space
Interactive infotainment system and smart media controller

But the Engine specs are good:

1.2 L 3 cyl, 12 Valve (4 valve per cyl) 110PS (108BHP) @ 170 NM torque is a lovely balanced engine. RPM is still to be announced. If the torqie is the same 1450 -3500 band then it definitely perfect scores.

Re: Nexon: Tata Motors Compact SUV Based on X1 Platform

I dont think TATA has tested this car in any way. Well, other than computer simulation.

But I somehow feel TATA has bench tested this engine for x hrs and are now dead sure about its characteristics. And they have a large number of data which when fed into the simulation can get a realistic, almost, results.

AND as for the engine, lets not forget that TATA and JLR have plans for joint development of engines. New engine family which will power both the TATA and JLR. Hence investing in all new engine family has probably started. This engine should be enough to fill the gaps.

Yes. You are right!

But this applies to the engines only above the capacity of 2000 cc. Lower capacity engines will only be developed by Tata Motors exclusively.

This is true. Next gen LR Defender and TATA Aria will share the same platform. They might also share the same engine.

So Next gen TATA vehicles should be a lot more fun.

Whereas Tata and JLR are said to be working on a joint product codenamed Q5 which will be a monocoque SUV based on the Freelander platform and will take on the XUV500. There are 1.5-litre and 2.0-litre engines that the firms will develop together in the future. The company is looking forward to rise in global markets and is working towards a successful product portfolio.
Here is another new I just stumbled upon. An XUV 500 rival based on ther new Freelander platform which is been jointly developed. It is a smaller capacity 1.5-litre and 2.0-litre engine Monoque vehicle.

It would be really interesting to see that how much the final production version of Nexon represents this cool concept?

Nexon Launch in 24 Months; Will be Different from Other Compact SUVs

1 Attachment(s)
As quoted by Motorbash.com
Tata Nexon, the upcoming compact SUV from the stables of the Pune based automotive major, is going to be a very important product for the company.
What’s surprising is the fact that Tata is going to take so long (24 months to be precise) to release a product in this highly competitive segment, a segment which made Ford’s fortune shine again like the polestar.
The concept showcased at the Auto Expo was one really good looking product, but what had made us skeptical is that Tata has been known to showcase futuristic concepts in various auto shows but we are yet to see a single one of them in production guise!
Nexon is supposed to change this perspective, if we go by these interview excerpts from Pratap Bose, Principal Designer at Tata given to ET Auto. Pratap says that Nexon is going to retain most of the design cues of the concept. Unlike most cars in this segment, the Nexon will have a curvy, coupe like rear end (remember the upcoming GLA?), to make it one of the best looking cars in the segment.
He says that unlike the boxy SUVs that we have, Nexon will be what “a fashionable woman in Delhi or Bangalore would like to drive!” He also says that most of the compact SUVs out there are derived from their bigger counterparts (was he hinting at Quanto?) but Nexon will not be made that way.
Nexon will use a better version of the newly developed 1.2L Revotron petrol engine which will first be plonked on the Zest and the Bolt. According to the official specs, the Nexon Concept produced 110PS of power and 170Nm of torque, pushing it to go flat out at 180kmph. All of this with an amazing fuel efficiency of 17.6kmpl.

A lot of hopes and expectations from Tata, but will they be able to deliver?

I would like to see how the rear end of the end product will turn out. If we look closely to the top of the rear window (rear glass), the way it flows into the spoiler is just classy. I dont think its do-able with glass. If TATA can retain it, it would lend the car a classy touch.

I donot see any sort of resemblences of their old models on this beautifully looking concept car. Not even a single line or characterstic [clap].

Where do some ppl [frustration] see such resemblences [lol]? If it is explained by piont it would clear everyone.
