On the other hand the well used MJD which powers most of the vehicles in the segment produces 72 - 90bhp. So Tata is well in the band and will play towards fuel efficiency part and cost effective means. No royalty to Fiat at all.
I'm glad to welcome if TATA bring all new engine but as per my knowledge of observing TATA's engineering system TATA wont come up with all new engine for existing lineup so let me clear some informatiom before judging on topic
We all know and heard the news that TATA introducing new range of diesel engines under Revotorq
umbrella So the first one is
- 1050cc 3cylinder CRDI
which is essencially 3cylinder(down sized) version of TATA's 1396cc CR4/Dicor
motor 1396cc CR4/DICOR
is an heavily retuned version of 1405cc TATA 475DI
finally comming back to TATA 475DI
the first small car diesel engine from TATA Motors introduced in original Indica
is is another big downsized version of 1948cc TATA 483DI
engine from original TATA SUMO/Sierra/Safari.
So now TATA developing 1500cc 4cylinder version of 1050cc 3cylinder revotorq motor
So technically we should consider this new engine as an upsized reworked version of tata 475di engine with lightweight parts
Currently TATA have 3 small diesel engines which are essencially based on one engine platform that is TATA 483DI
- TATA 702cc 475di engine
-TATA 799cc 475TCIC Dicor engine
-TATA 1050cc Revotorq engine
-TATA 1396cc CR4/Dicor engine
-TATA 1405cc 475DI/475TCIC
