Tata is constantly testing a facelifted version of the mini-commercial vehicle, Magic Iris in Pune. There are not one but many test mules of Iris which we have spotted.
Here are the pics of the upcoming CNG version which would be going on sale shortly. The white colored CNG Tank is clearly visible in one of the pics and the green-colored side-running CNG logo clears the air. Tata displayed the CNG Iris at the Auto Expo and this would be powered by a BS4 611cc water-cooled 13bhp, 37Nm dedicated CNG engine. This means that the engine would not be a dual-fuel version and would only run on CNG.
That means, Iris CNG produces 2bhp and more importantly 6Nm of torque more than the current BS3 diesel engine. The Iris CNG would have a capacity to hold 9kg of CNG which would provide the little public carrier with a range of a 220 kms which accounts to a mileage of approximately 24kms per kg of CNG. Another noticeworthy safety feature we liked was that Magic Iris comes with seat belts for driver and passengers.
Tata has already started teasing this CNG version on their official website and it would be soon before we should see this cute looking passenger carrier to rival Bajaj’s upcoming RE60.
