With out any doubt, the back seat comfort is better in Wagon R. You have MSIL ASS and Trust for Wagon R. It has got 4 PS more than Santro but falls short in the case of torque. Santro on the other hand, has got better torque and will be visible in its peppy nature. Both these cars are easy to handle and maintain. Wagon R will give you a slightly better roomy feeling.

I will pick Wagon R considering all these aspects [:)]

How do you compare WagonR and Santro?
Welcome to TAI jj1308

Comparison of cars depend on many parameters like-
Looks.
Performance.
Ride quality.
Popularity.
After Sales Service.
Resale Value etc etc

On the performance ground Santro has a 3 valve 3 cylinder engine whereas the WagonR has a 4 valve 4 cylinder engine. So the WagonR is better in terms of performance than the Santro.
Ride Quality is again better in the WagonR,the rear seats of the Santro are not comfortable. But the Santro has a higher seating position hence offering better visibility.

Popularity is almost the same for both the cars.

A.S.S is where Maruti Suzuki has an edge over every other car company in India.

Resale value is much better for the WagonR than the Santro.

The Wagon R minor means old wagon R??[confused]
The present one has a power of 64 bhp @ 6200 rpm and torque of 84 NM @ 3500 rpm.
And Santro has power of 63 bhp @ 5500 and torque of 96 NM @ 3000 rpm.

My selection will be a Santro Xing.

Sorry, that 'minor' part is a copy paste error [:)]

The power you have mentioned is in Bhp and I have given in PS, so its more or less the same!

IMO Wagon-R and Santro are pretty much at par. Aspects like nearest service centre, will sweeten the deal.

But i heard that recent Santros aren't as good as the original ones. One of my relative, who replaced the original Santro with a Xing and is now disappointed.

i would go for santro anyday, wagon-r has very bad handling, the breaking and engine response is more in santro, and the interior feel is better in santro compared to wagon-r, wagonr gives you a typical kind of feel, it feels like your sitting in a room with 4doors

Santro is a better handler than Wagon R, but not a class apart. Its brakes are skittish and the runs out of grip in a corner very easily. Good for you, if you need to show-off with screeching noises.

@CC: agreed ...the skidding is due to the excellent braking capabilities and to avoid screeching wheels a tyre upgrade might be required [thumbswink]
