Li’l Tata Magic Iris and Ace Zip Now Available
Tata Motors has launched the Magic Iris in Jaipur. After its launch in Jaipur, the vehicle will reportedly make its way to other cities. The vehicle is BS III compliant which means it will be unavailable in bigger BS IV cities like Delhi, Chennai and Mumbai. The firm has already established various advertisements of the vehicle in local newspapers.
A few features and the ex showroom price of the vehicle was recently advertised by a showroom through the latest edition of Dainik Bhaskar, a local news paper. The ad states that the vehicle comes with an ex showroom price tag of Rs. 198,000. The vehicle is powered by a 611cc single cylinder, water cooled BS III compliant engine. The engine is mated with a Smooth cable shift gearbox and the vehicle is given 12 inch radial foot ware.
After the addition of the various taxes and duties (On Road price), the car costs about Rs. 211,900. The bookings for the vehicle has already begun and the vehicle will reportedly be delivered within two days time after the day of booking.

They're eyeing the public transport segment buddy. At least it is better than the asthmatic, old, rickety auto-rickshaws! Not to forget much safer, and not more expensive than a three-wheeler! I feel it has tremendous potential here in India, it will certainly boost the public transport system (and crowd the cities further). I hope the Iris replaces the centuries-old auto-rickshaw.

Also, More information curios to know more about features etc. The price of Tata Iris looks to be attractive but capability is yet to be tested. Below are more pictures of Iris for your viewing pleasure.

Hmmm well as Amaan said it can be replace the 3 wheelers but they could have made it BS-IV compliant! But i guess that would have increased the price further!!

Maybe, but only by a margin. I think this thingy is powered by same engine which sits under hood of Nano. Seems Tata has serious plans to fill Indian roads with so many small cars! BTW, If anyone observed carefully, Iris has doors only on one side.

Nano engine? So is this one a petrol powered one? When all the 3 wheelers are switching to diesel, why did they launch in petrol? It could be ace's engine.

Ace comes with a 700cc Engine but Yes, It could be the de-tuned unit. Anyways whatever it is, Iris is Tata's (or probably world's) first car with smallest engine.

I think the Autos will live to fight another day. In the final equation, running and maintenance costs, fuel efficiency, manoeuvrability, and of course the initial cost of acquisition will play a role, and it is not likely that the 3-wheelers are going to be wiped out!!

I do not hate it either. But only afraid, what if it is flips down on the road while attempting to touch the ‘normal’ speed.

Re: Li’l Tata Magic Iris and Ace Zip Now Available
Oh no! Finally Tata has launched the Iris exactly like it was seen testing on NH4. Looking at the test vehicle we used to laugh at it saying 'rolling egg' on the road. It really looks very ugly.
By the way, are the auto-rickshaw owners the target customers for this? IMO, no one will buy it as a private vehicle.
On the other hand, the Ace Zip looks really a cute little truck.
@350Z: Nice pics.
