New Cars From Ford Every Year!
Quote:
Ford India recently unveiled its small car Figo for the Indian market. It intends to keep its promise to deliver more to Indian customers from its global product portfolio. In a recent interview, Michael Boneham, president and MD for Ford India, indicated that the company will launch a new product in India every 12-18 months.
Boneham was talking to the press during the launch of new dealership Victoria Ford in Kolkata. "We now have a market share of nearly 2% and we want to grow it significantly in coming years. Launching of new cars from the Ford stable, will play a crucial role in growing our market share in India." He refused to elaborate on company’s India plans in the long run.
Ford India also exports its cars to South Africa from India. Last year it exported about 4000 units and according to Boneham, Ford intends to maintain the current levels. Ford also has its engine plant in India that caters to global demand for its models across the world. The engine plant in India is export hub for Asia-Pacific and African region. Ford currently has capacity to produce 2.5 lakh engines annually.

Scoop Pictures - Motoroids
Expected: March 2010
Price bracket: Rs. 4.5 to 6.5-lakh
Engines: 1.2-litre petrol / 1.6-litre petrol(speculated), 1.4-litre diesel
The boot in itself looks so hilarious that any kid will tell that it’s a dummy box hanging from the back end of small car. Then is the rear windshield, which is a tad too vertical for for the test car to be a sedan. The brake lamp too sits on a roof spoiler (has anyone seen a sedan with one?) – which again is something that is usually found just where the rear windscreen of a sedan ends. So if we know it’s the Figo, why are the pics attached here? Well, these pics were taken last week and are a clear pointer that the car is in its final testing stages. It’s not a prototype for sure, but is still doing the test rounds for the various materials and components supplied by Ford’s OEMs. What these spy photos also show are the interiors – which Ford did not show during the launch, while they also claimed that these interiors will set a new benchmark for the entire hatchback segment in India. We don't really rate the interior of the new car much higher than the current Fiesta. The Fiesta and the Figo are going to use quite a few interior components from the same bin.

That was a good effort by Ford to put a boot on hatchback while testing to create confusion but it didn't proved to be much successful.

The Figo will obviously stand a segment below Ford Fusion, When goes on sale in March 2010. Expected pricing is around Rs.5 Lakhs and now you can guess which cars its going to rival. Even it can prove to be a competition for Nissan's Upcoming Micra.

First Drive of Figo with Interior Picture, By ACI -:
The Figo may have skipped the bright lights of the Auto expo, but we got our hands on it under the Goan sun. Here are first impressions of what is quite figo-ratively a hugely impressive car.
The 1.4-litre Duratorq diesel we know well. It behaves very much like it does in the Figo’s siblings. By this we mean the Figo’s got superb driveability, fantastic low and mid-range response for city driving but feels a bit out of breath on the highway, thanks to its modest 68bhp. We know this engine is fuel efficient and smooth, if quite noisy by modern diesel standards and it is now Bharat IV compliant.
There’s also a new 1.2-litre Duratec petrol that’s essentially a scaled down version of the engines that power the Fiesta and the Fusion. It makes a decent 70bhp, is tractable and has good mid-range performance. But, unlike the Fiesta motor, it doesn’t feel as happy as the top-end. It starts feeling strained at around 5000rpm, and labours to its 6600rpm redline. Peak torque of 10.4kgm isn’t as good as the K-series engine in the Ritz either. Still, the overall, the package is well tuned for a 1.2 motor. Performance, as expected, is average. Ford’s claimed 0-100kph figures are 15.5 seconds for the petrol variant and 15.8 seconds for diesel models.
The Figo’s got great big-car feel. The ride is one of the best in class, good at low and high speeds. It’s very stable at three digit speeds and you can see Ford’s ‘driver’s car’ DNA in it. The steering weighs up nicely, and though there’s not much feel at speed, it’s still very good.
The Figo is one of the biggest B-segment cars in India. It’s longer than the Swift, has a longer wheelbase than the Fusion. Interior space is good, but not great, especially at the rear. Still, the seats make up by being very supportive, and seat height and back support are good as well.
We’re not sure if we like the colours used on the dashboard, but the faux aluminium trim does look good and the cabin has sporty overtones with red stitching on the black seats.
Prices haven’t been announced yet, but the way the company is stressing on low cost of ownership should mean very competitive pricing and reasonably priced spare parts. And the car comes with a two year warranty. There’s lots of promise here.
Drive Safe,
350Z

Exteriors are not at all amusing, i hope they price it well below fusion so as to make it apopular among hatch buyers who would love to have 1.4Duratorq Diesel at lower price.

This doesn't excite me, even interiors are just Okkiishh..
But 1.4L diesel engine is the thing to look forward to.
