Luxury carmaker BMW Ag. announced Friday that it would show a conceptual coupe at the vintage-car event this weekend, held at Villa d’Este, on Lake Como in northern Italy.

Designed in collaboration with Zagato, the Zagato Coupe is a unique take on the idea of a BMW two-seater built for sport and style. This one-off model is the product of many hours of skilled hand-craftsmanship and breathes new life into the tradition of coachbuilding.
There’s some interesting details and design inspirations on the car, such as the matte-frame kidney grilles being inspired by the geodesic dome work of Buckminister Fuller, according to BMW’s press release.
Another special highlight of the BMW Zagato Coupé is its paintwork. The exclusive paint finish, Rosso Vivace, uses an expressive shade of red to bring the surfaces and forms of the BMW Zagato Coupé to life.
The shape is aerodynamically optimized and the car is fully road registered in Germany, and has already undergone high-speed testing at BMW’s own test facility.

“Zagato has always provided its customers with ready-to-drive cars which can be sent into action on the road or race track without further ado – and the BMW Zagato Coupé fits the same template,” says Dr. Andrea Zagato, who represents the third generation of his family to run the design company.
