The refreshed ASEAN-spec HR-V gets 120hp, 1.5-litre and 139hp, 1.8-litre petrol engines, exterior and interior design tweaks and more kit.

Honda has taken the wraps off the facelift for the ASEAN-spec HR-V at the ongoing GIIAS 2018 in Indonesia. Like the refreshed model for the Japanese market (where it is sold as the Vezel), the HR-V facelift gets cosmetic changes both inside and out, and two engine and transmission options.

The exterior features new LED headlamps, a larger grille bar (bringing it in line with the design of other recently revealed Honda cars), tweaked fog lamp housing and a newly contoured front bumper. There are new designs for the 17-inch alloy wheels on offer, as well. The interior design is more or less unchanged, but higher-spec models are available with a dual-tone beige-and-black interior finish.

There are two engines on offer with the HR-V facelift – a 1.5-litre petrol engine that makes 120hp and 145Nm of peak torque and a 1.8-litre petrol motor that produces 139hp and 169Nm of torque. The 1.5-litre engine gets a six-speed manual and a CVT automatic option while the 1.8-litre engine is only offered with the CVT automatic gearbox. The HR-V for European markets also comes with a 1.6-litre diesel engine option. This oil-burner will come to India first in the upcoming all-new CR-V and then is likely to be used in the next Honda Civic sedan, as well.

In terms of safety equipment, the ASEAN-spec HR-V gets six airbags, ABS with EBD and brake-assist and more. Creature comforts inside include a new 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system that doubles as a reversing camera, paddleshifters for the CVT-equipped variants, a five-speaker audio system, a panoramic sunroof, driver’s seat height-adjust and split, folding rear seats.

For the Indian market, Honda has plans to bring the HR-V facelift (with slight tweaks) to our shores in 2019. Here, it is expected to rival higher variants of the Hyundai Creta, the upcoming Tata Harrier, the yet-to-arrive MG-badged Baojun SUV and the Jeep Compass.

New Honda HRV India launch by Diwali 2019 – Rival to Hyundai Creta, Suzuki Vitara

After seeing huge success with the newly launched Amaze sedan, Honda Cars India is planning to launch atleast 2 new cars based on the Amaze platform (one could be new Brio and other could be sub 4 meter SUV). Apart from this, there will be 3 more new cars for India. One of them is the Honda HRV, which will take on the Hyundai Creta, and the upcoming Tata Harrier H5X and Maruti Suzuki Vitara.

As per a report published by LiveMint, the company has already started talks with vendors for the potential launch and production of the HRV in India. In order to keep price competitive, Honda will have to make the car in India.

Speaking about the new HRV, it is already a success in may countries. Just recently, the new HRV got updated in Europe with a 1.5 liter petrol engine, which is also expected to power the India-spec HRV.

Most notable updates on the 2019 Honda HR-V crossover includes a chrome grille as against a glossy black grille seen on its earlier counterpart. Extensive use of chrome is also noted while headlamps get redesigned with new projector lenses and LED DRLs have been added.

Europe spec Honda HR-V is powered by a 1.5 liter naturally aspirated petrol engine. This engine offers 130 PS power and 155 Nm torque mated to a 6 speed manual transmission. Acceleration from 0 to 100 kmph is achieved in 10.7 seconds. Efficiency of this engine has been vastly improved with reduced friction between cylinder bores and pistons.

In India, the new HRV SUV is expected to be powered by the same engine which is seen on the current Honda City. This is also a 1.5 liter unit, but tuned to deliver 118 PS. Along with it, it will also get 1.5 liter diesel unit, which is rated at 100 PS and 200 Nm. Transmission options on offer will include automatic as well as manual. Expect price to be in the range of Rs 9-13 lakhs.

Honda has already disclosed its plans to bring in new SUVs to the Indian market and had confirmed the HR-V for our market. The HR-V most likely will be the next big launch from Honda's stable and we have got the latest spy images of the compact SUV. The Honda HR-V was today spotted testing in the capital by carandbike reader, Mayukh Bhattacharya who sent these pictures to us. The test car is heavily camouflaged and not an ounce of the sheet metal is exposed, not even the wheels. However, what helped us identify the car is the silhouette of it along with the test car (red) Noida license plate where all Honda-owned cars are registered.
