The Japanese carmaker has unveiled the strong hybrid iteration of its highly popular Suzuki Swift hatchback. Called the Suzuki Swift Hybrid, the model made its public appearance at the 2018 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) in Jakarta. Just so you know, the company already retails the hybrid version of the Swift is the Japanese market.

The Suzuki Swift Hybrid hearts a 1.2-litre (K12C), naturally-aspirated petrol engine combined with an electric motor. While the gasoline unit makes a peak power of 89.7bhp (91PS) and 118Nm of torque, the electric motor delivers a peak power of 13.4bhp (13.6PS) and 30Nm of torque. The latter sources its power from a 100V lithium-ion battery pack fitted in the boot of the vehicle. Just to jog your memory, the company showcased the Swifts hybrid engine at the Delhi Auto Expo in February, 2018

For transmission duties, the vehicle gets a 5-speed AMT (automated manual transmission) with paddle shifters. The Japan-spec Suzuki Swift Hybrid returns a claimed fuel economy of 32kmpl. Just so you know, the India-spec petrol version of the Swift comes with a K12B petrol motor that’s good enough for 81.8bhp (83PS) with 113Nm of torque. Its mileage figure stands at 22kmpl, thus making it 10kmpl less frugal than its hybrid version.

Save for the new honeycomb mesh front grille and the Hybrid moniker on the front fender, the Suzuki Swift Hybrid looks exactly similar to the regular Swift. Inside, the car gets blue light above the MID in the instrument cluster and blue inserts on the gear lever. The hatchback also comes fitted with the lasers and cameras for detecting pedestrians. Braking mechanism further enhanced by dual sensor brake support.

According to the previous media reports, Maruti Suzuki might bring in the Swift Hybrid in the Indian market. Currently, the carmaker retails its select vehicles with SHVS mild-hybrid technology including the Ciaz sedan, S-Cross crossover and Ertiga MPV.
