JAGUAR XE SV PROJECT 8 IS WORLD’S FASTEST FOUR-DOOR CAR, WITH RECORD NÜRBURGRING NORDSCHLEIFE LAP

01_Jaguar XE SV Project 8 - Nurburgring Record Lap.jpg

· 441 kW Jaguar XE SV Project 8 laps Nürburgring Nordschleife in 7 min 21.23 s – the fastest ever time by a four-door sedan in production-intent specification

· Most extreme performance road-legal Jaguar – designed, engineered and hand-assembled by SVO – is capable of 0-97 km/h in 3.3 s and a top speed of 322 km/h*

· Production limited to 300 units for sale worldwide, priced from £149 995 in UK. Register interest at www.jaguar.com/about-jaguar/special-vehicle-operations/project-8.html

(Fen End, UK – 28 November 2017) Jaguar’s SVO-developed XE SV Project 8 is now the world’s fastest four-door car, following a production-intent prototype’s record lap of the Nürburgring Nordschleife. The incredible time of 7 min 21.23 s is nearly 11 s quicker than the previous fastest sedan around the legendary 20.7 km German circuit and puts the 441 kW Project 8 ahead of some of the world’s fastest two-door coupés and supercars.

Mark Stanton, SVO Director, said: “The SVO design and engineering team’s mission was to create the most track-focused road-legal Jaguar in history – not only the fastest, but also the most agile. As a result, only the roof and front door skins of Project 8’s body are carried-over unaltered from XE and 75 percent of its mechanical hardware is new. This astonishing Nürburgring Nordschleife record validates the success of such extensive changes.”

John Edwards, Jaguar Land Rover Special Operations Managing Director, added: “SVO exists to push the boundaries of performance, luxury and all-terrain capability. The hand-assembled XE SV Project 8 takes that principle to the limit, extracting supercar-beating performance from Jaguar’s most compact four-door sedan. The Nürburgring Nordschleife record underlines our commitment to deliver the most extreme Jaguar ever to Project 8 clients, who will soon experience this sensational sedan for themselves.”

This car is absolute love. Kudos to Jaguar for showing their maximum potential. It is very difficult a good car into a monster as the base XE is itself such a great driving car. I am just amazed!

SV TEAM PREPARES PROJECT 8 FOR MORE RECORD-BREAKING PERFORMANCES FROM SUMMER 2018

State-of-the-art motorsport technology for track-focused 321.8 km/h road-legal Jaguar, fine-tuned on race circuits throughout the UK and mainland Europe

Intensive development programme indicates record-breaking 7 min 21.23 s Nurburgring Nordschleife lap time could be beaten by Project 8 owners

Hand assembly of customers’ Project 8s, strictly limited to 300 examples worldwide, will begin at Special Vehicle Operations’ Technical Centre in June

(Warwickshire, UK – 26 April 2018) Engineering fine-tuning on the new Jaguar XE SV Project 8 has almost finished, ahead of production starting in June. Since its public debut at last July’s Goodwood Festival of Speed, the fastest-ever four-door Jaguar has undergone numerous enhancements to ensure Project 8 is the fastest and most thrilling of all road-legal four-door sedans.

John Edwards, Jaguar Land Rover Special Operations Managing Director, says: “The fastest high performance saloon in the world just keeps getting faster. The Jaguar XE SV Project 8 development team at Special Vehicle Operations keep pushing boundaries – the drive to do that is in our designers’ and engineers’ blood.”

Project 8 is a four-door car with genuine supercar performance. Top speed is 321.8 km/h and 0-96 km/h acceleration takes just 3.3 s. It set a new four-door production car record around the Nürburgring’s Nordschleife last year – the ‘gold’ standard for all-round high performance. Its best lap of 7 min 21.23 s was quicker than many supercars, and broke the old four-door record by more than 10 s.

Mark Stanton, Special Vehicle Operations Director, says: “With Project 8 we set out to deliver a fast, fun and engaging car that encourages you to explore its performance. Our lap record at the Nürburgring proves we have achieved that, but now we believe we can go faster. We’re continually honing every functional aspect of the car, focusing on marginal gains to make it even quicker yet still accessible to drive.”

With a 441.3 kW version of Jaguar’s legendary supercharged 5.0 l V8, Project 8 is the most powerful Jaguar road car to date. No more than 300 of these limited-edition cars will be hand assembled by Special Vehicle Operations at its Technical Centre in Coventry.

David Pook, Project 8’s Vehicle Dynamics Manager, says: “The good thing about building only 300 cars, all hand-made, is that you can keep developing the car right up to the start of production. And we’ve done just that. The springs have got stiffer and so have the engine mounts. The suspension arm bushes have changed. The brakes have been refined for the exact pedal feel and performance we want. This has all been done to make the car even more responsive and to handle even better.

But the biggest changes are to software. They are all small adjustments – to improve performance, feel, responsiveness, refinement. We keep honing the whole car, relentlessly. We’re never really happy. We keep challenging ourselves to keep improving the car, and push boundaries. It’s certainly even faster, better handling and more responsive than it was six months ago. All that effort has been worth it.”

Unlike most high performance production saloons, the four-wheel-drive Project 8 is studded with genuine motor racing technology. This includes, as standard, adjustable ride height, adjustable camber, adjustable front splitter and rear wing, a flat underbody, a differential oil cooler, track-perfect Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres as standard (the only option) on forged 50.8 cm (20) wheels and – a production car first – F1-style ceramic wheel bearings.

The front uprights, two-part upper wishbones, balljoints in place of rubber bushes, twin coil springs, dampers, lower suspension bushes, anti-roll bars and latest specification carbon ceramic brakes are all new and bespoke to Project 8. The only carryover body components from the standard XE are the roof and front door skins, both made from aluminium. The vented bonnet and flared front wings and bumpers are made from lightweight carbon fibre.

The result of this state-of-the-art technology is improved driver feel and confidence, sharper handling responses and exceptional durability, allowing repeated high-speed track driving.

In its most extreme settings, and in ‘Track’ mode, Project 8 delivers 122 kg of downforce at 299.3 km/h – that’s 25 percent more than its nearest rival. And, it is the first Jaguar to offer a Track mode, standard on all versions, which tailors driveline and stability control systems for circuit use by sharpening throttle and steering responses and tuning the dampers to their most aggressive setting.

Mark Stanton, Special Vehicle Operations Director, says: “Power delivery and gear shifts are the most visceral we have ever offered on a Jaguar – every 1/100th of a second improvement in shift time adds up over a complete lap of the Nürburgring.”

Two versions of Project 8 are available. The four-seat version contains all the motorsport technology that is the hallmark of Project 8. In addition, there is a more hardcore two-seat Track Pack version that saves 12.2 kg in weight and includes carbon fibre racing seats and four-point safety harnesses. In place of the back seat is a solid metal panel and Harness Retention Hoop, which helps boost torsional rigidity by 27 percent over the four-seat version.

Mark Stanton, Special Vehicle Operations Director, says: “Rest assured, no stone has been left unturned in our mission to make this the most rewarding Jaguar driver’s car ever.”

It is the second Collector’s Edition Jaguar from Special Vehicle Operations, after the 2014 F-TYPE Project 7. Deliveries begin this summer.

Fen End, UK – 24 October 2018: Visitors to the Nürburgring Nordschleife in Germany can now experience the thrill of the fastest production four-door car to lap the legendary circuit as the ultimate XE SV Project 8 with Track Pack becomes the latest Jaguar Race Taxi.

Project 8 is the most extreme performance road-legal Jaguar ever, designed, engineered and hand-assembled by Special Vehicle Operations. In November 2017, the 441 kW 5.0 l supercharged V8 sedan beat some of the world’s fastest two-door coupes and supercars to set a record lap time of 7 min 21.23 s.

Thrill-seekers will get a full demonstration of Project 8’s exceptional performance and handling as Jaguar’s professional drivers take them on a lap of ‘The Green Hell’ at speeds in excess of 250 km/h. Passengers will also experience g-forces of more than 1.3 g around the 20.8 km, 73-turn circuit – up to 1.8 g in the banked Karussell corner.

Phil Talboys, Jaguar Land Rover European Engineering Operations Manager, said: “The XE SV Project 8 demonstrated its incredible mix of raw speed and dynamic precision by setting a Nürburgring Nordschleife lap record last year. Now, visitors to this sensational circuit – which played a pivotal role in the development of the ultimate Jaguar XE – will get the chance to experience the full track capability of the world’s fastest four-door sedan.”

The Nürburgring Nordschleife was an essential part of the XE SV Project 8’s development process, with Jaguar’s team of engineers and drivers at the SV Development Centre, located at the circuit, honing the most track-focused car Special Vehicle Operations has ever produced.

The Jaguar XE, with its dynamic design and aluminium-intensive monocoque, forms the perfect foundation for the enhanced performance of Project 8. Taking the already agile and responsive handling of the XE, extensive performance enhancements enable Project 8 to sprint from 0-100 km/h in 3.7 s and reach a top speed of 322 km/h.

With world-class motorsport technology throughout, Project 8 has carbon fibre panels, adjustable aerodynamics, a unique suspension setup with adjustable ride height and camber and is the first road car with F1-style ceramic wheel bearings. It’s also the first Jaguar with a dedicated Track Mode, which activates electronic calibration settings tailored to circuit use.

The two-seat Track Pack-equipped Project 8 Race Taxi joins the 423 kW four-seat XJR575 Race Taxi – the fastest and most powerful XJ in the luxury saloon’s 50-year history.

Jaguar Race Taxi experiences are available until the circuit closes in mid-November, and will be offered throughout the open season in 2019. Book for € 199 per lap online at www.jaguar-experience.de. Gift vouchers are available.

New 2019 Jaguar XE revealed with exterior tweaks and tech upgrades

01_54.jpg

Jaguar is hoping it can right the XE’s wrongs with a new facelifted version for 2019. The updated Jaguar XE receives tweaks to its exterior, upgrades to its technology arsenal and a substantially overhauled interior. Priced from just under £34,000 it goes on sale this week.

02_54.jpg

The XE’s four-year old design doesn’t get any metalwork changes but a series of tiny tweaks to give a fresher appearance. The front gets a reshaped grille that stands slightly prouder than before and it sits within a completely new bumper with larger air intakes. If the headlights look a little sleeker that’s because they’re 12mm slimmer than the old car’s, and every XE now gets LED ‘J-blade’ day-running lights and headlights as standard.
