Land Rover reaffirms its position as the world’s leading SUV brand

From a bloodline like no other, Velar name is derived from the original Range Rover prototypes of 1969

World premiere on 1 March 2017

Whitley, UK, 22 February 2017 – The luxury SUV was created in 1970 when Land Rover launched the original Range Rover. Almost half a century later that spirit of innovation continues with the introduction of the fourth member of the Range Rover family, to be unveiled on 1 March 2017.

Elegant simplicity, a visually reductive approach and pioneering consumer technology are the hallmarks of the new Range Rover Velar.

Land Rover Chief Design Officer, Gerry McGovern, said: “We call the Velar the avant garde Range Rover. It brings a new dimension of glamour, modernity and elegance to the brand. The Range Rover Velar changes everything.”

Refined for every occasion, for every terrain, Velar uses unique sustainable materials and advanced engineering to continue Land Rover’s drive to go Above and Beyond.

The origin of the Velar name (pronounced vel-ar) dates back to the first Range Rover prototypes of the Sixties: the pioneers of the luxury SUV landscape.

When development engineers needed to hide the true identity of the 26 pre-production Range Rovers, they chose the name Velar, derived from the Latin velare meaning to veil or cover.

Full details of the Range Rover Velar will be announced on 1 March 2017

AFAIK F Pace and Discovery Sport have very similar chassis etc
They even share the same engine

Off topic but I drove the F Type and F Type R last week as part of the Jaguar Performance Tour along with their entire range of cars !!

Love the clean dash designs of Range Rover and Volvo
They dont scream anything and are very functional
Dunno why dashboards are always screaming glam-glitter in most cars these days

INTRODUCING RANGE ROVER VELAR
The fourth member of the Range Rover family has arrived

A new addition to the Range Rover family, filling the white space between the Range Rover Evoque and the Range Rover Sport

A mid-size luxury SUV that delivers new levels of refinement, elegance and technology

Range Rover Velar goes on sale from Summer 2017 priced from £44,830 (OTR)

The luxury SUV was created in 1970 when Land Rover launched the original Range Rover. Almost half a century later that spirit of innovation continues with the introduction of the fourth member of the Range Rover family.

Elegant simplicity, a visually reductive approach and pioneering consumer technology are the hallmarks of the new Range Rover Velar.

Whitley, UK, 01 March 2017 – The Range Rover Velar brings a new dimension of glamour, modernity and elegance to the Range Rover family. Designed to fill the white space between the Range Rover Evoque and Range Rover Sport, the Velar offers levels of luxury, refinement and all-terrain capability never before seen in the mid-size SUV segment. This is a new type of Range Rover for a new type of customer.

Created from a clean sheet using Jaguar Land Rover’s Lightweight Aluminium Architecture, the Velar represents the next chapter of the Range Rover success story. Velar is defined by a visually reductive approach and meticulous attention to precision in every detail, which evolves Range Rover DNA and previews the next generation of Range Rover vehicles.

Velar’s design is beautifully balanced, from its powerful proportions to its continuous waist line through to the taut tapered lines of the rear. The generous wheelbase contributes significantly to its elegance while helping to provide a spacious interior.

Velar is now the compelling, stand-out design in the class, showcasing perfectly optimised volume, powerful, taut surfaces and a stunning silhouette.” Gerry McGovern, Chief Design Officer, Land Rover

The large alloy wheels – in particular the range of 22-inch designs – optimise the vehicle’s stunning silhouette, while further enhancing Velar’s dramatic presence.

Advanced technology is pivotal to the contemporary design: the full-LED headlights are the most slender ever to appear on a production Land Rover vehicle. The flush deployable door handles emphasise Velar’s reductive, sculptured form, and contribute to the low drag coefficient of only 0.32 – this is the most aerodynamically-efficient Land Rover ever produced.

Look inside Velar’s interior and you will see elegant simplicity, sophistication and refinement. An unwavering belief in reductionism has been fully employed, with switches being kept to an absolute minimum to help create a calm sanctuary.

Design enabling technology has been engaged fully to create the new Touch Pro Duo infotainment system which is the centrepiece of Velar’s interior. Touch Pro Duo features two 10-inch high-definition touchscreens integrated seamlessly behind secret-until-lit surfaces. These slim, intuitive displays work in harmony with the cabin architecture while adding an overall sense of modernity congruent with the vehicle’s exterior design. All of this is equalled by the Velar’s practicality: luggage compartment volume is an impressive 673-litres.

Unique in the segment, the Velar offers a sustainable, premium textile seat material as an alternative to leather. The Dapple Grey material was developed together with Kvadrat, Europe’s leading manufacturer of high-quality design textiles, and is complemented with Suedecloth inserts in Ebony or Light Oyster.

The light, stiff, aluminium-intensive body, together with double-wishbone front- and Integral Link rear suspension provides the perfect basis for agile handling, superior ride comfort and outstanding refinement. It also delivers exceptional levels of crash protection, and the Velar has been developed to meet the most demanding crash test regulations worldwide.

Combined with a comprehensive restraints system that includes six airbags, and a suite of advanced driver assistance systems including Autonomous Emergency Braking with pedestrian detection, Adaptive Cruise Control with Queue Assist and an Adaptive Speed Limiter, the Velar integrates the latest safety technology.

The Velar features a sophisticated all-wheel drive system, four-corner air suspension, class-leading ground clearance of 251mm (213mm with coil springs), class-leading wading depth of 650mm (600mm with coil springs) and Land Rover’s unmatched suite of traction technologies including Terrain Response 2 and All Terrain Progress Control. The Velar – like all Range Rovers – offers world-class all-terrain capability.

Exceptional performance and efficiency comes from the range of six petrol and diesel powertrains, all matched to smooth-shifting ZF eight-speed automatic transmissions and all-wheel drive with Intelligent Driveline Dynamics.

Clean, refined four-cylinder Ingenium diesels are offered in 180PS and 240PS variants, noted for their low 142g/km CO2 emissions and high 500Nm torque output respectively. These engines are joined by the new, highly-advanced four-cylinder Ingenium petrol engine which delivers 250PS and enables acceleration from 0-100km/h in just 6.7 seconds (0-60mph in 6.4 seconds). An even more powerful, 300PS version of this engine will join the Velar range later in the year.

The V6 diesel combines an extraordinary 700Nm of torque for effortless acceleration and off-road capability with CO2 emissions of only 167g/km. The 380PS supercharged V6 petrol engine combines exhilarating performance with a unique soundtrack and enables the Velar to reach 100km/h in only 5.7 seconds (0-60mph in 5.3 seconds) before reaching an electronically-limited top speed of 250km/h (155mph).

The Velar and Velar R-Dynamic core range comprises Standard, S, SE and HSE specifications. Customers can also specify Black and Luxury Exterior Packs for an even more distinguished appearance.

Of all Velar models, the most exclusive of all will be the First Edition, which will be available worldwide for one model year only. Even more luxurious than the HSE specification, this model is powered solely by the 3.0-litre V6 petrol and diesel engines and features a wealth of extra features as standard, including full extended leather interior trim to complement the perforated Windsor leather seats in Light Oyster or Ebony, 1,600W Meridian Signature Sound System, Matrix-Laser LED headlights and 22-inch split-spoke wheels with diamond-turned finish.

Exterior paint colours for the First Edition are Corris Grey, Silicon Silver, and Flux Silver – a unique satin finish exclusive to the First Edition for the first model year only – which will be meticulously hand-sprayed at Jaguar Land Rover Special Vehicle Operations’ Oxford Road Technical Centre in the UK.

Designed and engineered at Jaguar Land Rover’s development centres in the UK, Velar will be produced at the company’s Solihull production facility, UK. It goes on sale from Summer 2017 in the UK and Europe and will be sold in over 100 markets worldwide.

50 YEARS OF VELAR: THE STORY OF RANGE ROVER

· Land Rover launches new visitor attraction at its Solihull home

· Tour takes visitors on a journey from the 1967 Velar prototype to the new Velar

· Interactive exhibit showcases British design and engineering story behind the world’s greatest luxury SUV.

Tuesday 4h April, Solihull, Land Rover has opened a new visitor attraction at its thriving Solihull manufacturing plant. ‘The Range Rover Story’ is an interactive exhibit created to celebrate 50 years of the world’s most revered luxury SUV.

Range Rover has been manufactured at Solihull since 1970, but its history with the site goes back to 1967 when the first secret prototype was conceived, codenamed Velar. The new exhibit will take visitors on a time-travelling voyage from its inception in the mid1960s, through to the introduction of the Range Rover Sport and Range Rover Evoque. The exhibition culminates in an exciting unveil of the new Range Rover Velar, celebrating British design and engineering integrity.

Roger Crathorne (known as Mr Land Rover) dedicated 50 years’ service to Land Rover and has been heavily involved in the creation of the exhibition. He said: “The exhibit tells the incredible story of the Range Rover, from the original Velar prototype through to today’s new model. At the time I began my career in 1967 as a Technical Assistant on the Velar Team, the intention was never to build a luxury vehicle. Over the 50 years since, the Range Rover has come a long way. We wanted to develop a more comfortable on-road Land Rover that would combine the comfort of the Rover with the Land Rover 4x4 capability to support a growing leisure market.

Nigel Blenkinsop, Operations Director at Solihull, said: “We are hugely proud to build the Range Rover Velar at Solihull, the birthplace of both the Land Rover and Range Rover. Here, we have invested over £2bn in recent years to enable us to triple production. Our business is now Britain’s number one car manufacturer.”

The opening of the Range Rover exhibition coincides with the opening of Velar manufacturing tours at Solihull. Velar is the third new model in a year to be launched at the plant, following the Jaguar F-PACE and new Discovery. Velar is produced in one of the largest aluminium body shops in the world and is beautifully finished in a versatile trim hall; capable of producing three different SUVs – all built to customers’ unique specifications.

The Solihull plant has contributed to the company doubling its sales and headcount in the past five years. This has supported the UK’s revival in manufacturing, boosting the British economy where the automotive company provides 240,000 jobs in the supply chain. The Range Rover family contributes £10bn annually to the UK economy and is Britain’s largest luxury export.

Buddies,

SVR-Tuned Land Rover Rover Rover Velar Spied!

The Land Rover Range Rover Velar goes on sale in the United States this summer, but a fresh crop of spy photos reveals that the brand apparently has a hotter SVR tune of the stylish crossover under development at the Nürburgring. The top trim of the stock model is good for 380 horsepower (283 kilowatts) from its supercharged 3.0-liter V6, so this version should be even more potent.

These spy photos reveal that this upcoming range-topper of the Velar has a more aggressive front fascia that includes a mesh grille at its lowest part. The engineers don’t do a very good job of hiding the intakes on the corners.

Slightly off topic,
If anyone plays Grand Theft Auto V, you'll notice the Range Rover Vogue looks all Velar in the game, there are a lot of such vehicles in GTA V that look like the current generation vehicles, although the game was designed when the cars weren't facelifted...
Even the Bugatti Veyron in the game looks like the Chiron... Lol

NEW RANGE ROVER VELAR DRIVES SECOND-QUARTER GROWTH FOR JAGUAR LAND ROVER

Second-quarter retail sales rise 5% to 149,690 units year-on-year

Strong customer demand for Range Rover Velar and other new models

Revenues rise 11.5% to £6.3 billion

Pre-tax profits increase 38% to £385 million

Coventry, UK: Jaguar Land Rover Automotive plc today reported a 38% increase in second-quarter pre-tax profits to £385 million in the three months to September 30, 2017. Revenues were up 11.5% to £6.3 billion with an increase in margin (EBIT) of 1% to 5.2%.

Higher sales and profits reflect the continuing ramp-up of new models such as the Range Rover Velar, Land Rover Discovery, Jaguar XF Sportbrake, Jaguar F-PACE and, in China, the Jaguar XFL. Retail sales grew 5.1% to 149,690, with increases in China (27.4%) and the US (5.1%) offsetting lower sales in the UK and Europe.

Dr Ralf Speth, Jaguar Land Rover Chief Executive Officer, said: “We have delivered solid growth in quarterly profit and revenues amid rising demand for our award-winning products. Although we are facing headwinds and uncertainty in some markets, Jaguar Land Rover is well positioned to deliver further global expansion.”

As part of the company’s ongoing product offensive, manufacturing expansion and new technology programme, Jaguar Land Rover’s investment spending was more than £1 billion in the second quarter. Investment spending for the full year is expected to exceed £4 billion.

Dr Speth concluded: “Our product portfolio continues to excite and surprise. The all-new Land Rover Discovery is now on sale everywhere and exciting new and existing customers, while the new Velar, the fourth Range Rover, is now enticing a new audience and helping to drive sales growth.

“Looking ahead to the rest of the year, we will continue to focus on our strategic objective of achieving profitable, sustainable growth and will continue to adapt and innovate in the current challenging market conditions.”
