After launching the present gen Skoda Superb for the market, Skoda has begun to test a "Facelift" perhaps of the luxury sedan. Though visually not much looks to have changed outside but it may get some new features in the coming years and a mid-life face-lift around late 2018 may also happen.

It remains to be seen whether the prototype photographed is a sign of a facelift or Skoda was testing some new kit that will be added in the next model years. Chances are the mid-cycle update will be introduced at the end of 2018 or early 2019, almost four years after the current-gen’s introduction.

The company has put a special introductory price of Rs. 23.99 lakhs on the car currently, which is lower than even the base trim Superb. However, not everybody can walk into the dealership and buy the car.

This is because the Superb Corporate Edition is limited only to the existing customers of the company. Therefore, if you don’t own a Skoda vehicle, the company will politely refuse you from giving you one.

Skoda Superb Facelift India Launch Confirmed For Later This Year

Skoda has released first official images of the soon to be launched Superb facelift. 2019 Skoda Superb facelift is seen with an updated design. The front end features a new butterfly grille which gets a thick chrome strip running along its length.

New 2019 Skoda Superb: prices and specs announced

Skoda has announced the facelifted Superb will start from £24,655. The Czech brand’s flagship model has been handed a mid-life refresh with a minor cosmetic overhaul, updated mechanicals borrowed from the latest Volkswagen Passat and, from 2020, a new plug-in hybrid powertrain.

Styling updates for the standard Superb include new LED Matrix headlights, a remodelled radiator grille and a fresh front bumper. Tweaked rear lamps and new chrome boot-lid trim also feature alongside new spaced letter badging on the tailgate. Inside, a retrimmed interior adopts the VW Group’s latest digital gauge cluster and infotainment setups.

A near-production 2020 Skoda Superb facelift has been spotted testing in India. Slated to be launched in May this year, the car appears to be undergoing some final stages of emission testing, judging by the emission apparatus hidden behind the camouflage. First unveiled in May 2019, the facelifted version of Skoda's flagship sedan will come with a host of design and styling changes along with updated powertrain options, which will be compliant to the upcoming BS6 emission norms.

Skoda Superb Facelift Coming To India Soon; Likely To Launch In May

Skoda Auto India announced its plans for the Indian market at the 2020 Auto Expo and there was a lot that was expected in the coming months. However, the lockdown because of the coronavirus meant that the company had to push back some of its plans for the Indian market. Among many of the debuts at the 2020 Auto Expo, the one that caught our eye was the Superb facelift. Why? Well, the premium sedan segment, hasn't shown signs of growth, but Skoda will continue with its plans to bring the car into this segment. In fact the Brand Director, Skoda Auto India, Zac Hollis in an exclusive interview with carandbike confirmed this development. He said, "The Superb facelift will be launched very soon after the lockdown is lifted. We are just waiting for one particular part from Europe, but there's no reason why the Superb facelift cannot be launched in the country very, very quickly."

Skoda Auto India Opens Online Bookings For The 2020 Superb

Skoda Auto India has kick started the bookings for the 2020 Superb in India. The car was first showcased at the Auto Expo 2020 and then was scheduled to launch immediately post that. However, the lockdown brought an abrupt end to those plans and now the company has opened the bookings for the car online for a token amount of ₹ 50,000. Skoda had already opened bookings for the Karoq SUV and the Rapid 1.0 TSI and now the Superb too is available online.

The Superb facelift coming to India will get a 2-litre TSI petrol motor which churns out 187 bhp and develops 320 Nm of torques. The car will be available only with the petrol engine for now, but Skoda is not doing away with diesel engines. In terms of competition, the new Superb will compete with the likes of the Toyota Camry Hybrid and Honda Accord in the segment

2020 Skoda Superb facelift launched at Rs 29.99 lakh

• Superb facelift launched at Rs 29.99 lakh
• Starting price is about Rs 4 lakh higher than the outgoing model
• Available in two trims – Laurin & Klement and Sportline

Skoda has launched the Superb facelift with prices starting at Rs 29.99 lakh and going up to Rs 32.99 lakh (ex-showroom, pan-India). Compared to the outgoing model, 2020 Superb prices start about Rs 4 lakh higher. There are two trims on offer with the refreshed Superb – Sportline and Laurin & Klement (L&K).

The biggest change to the Superb is the new larger 2.0-litre TSI turbo-petrol engine that replaces the old 1.8-litre TSI unit. Power and torque figures are notably higher, with the new unit making 190hp and 320Nm of torque; up 10hp and 70Nm over the previous engine. Power goes to the wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox as standard. Unlike the model it replaces, the facelift does not get a diesel engine option.
