As if the recent news of Maruti Suzuki cars failing the Global NCAP crash test was not enough the parent company Suzuki finds itself involved in a fuel efficiency data scandal in Japan. It is being said that the company used methods for fuel efficiency and emission testing which were different from those recommended as per Japanese regulations. [frustration]

Suzuki Motor says it used improper fuel economy tests - The Economic Times

The company does mention that the cars in other countries are not affected. However this is certain to cause some worry among Indian buyers about MSIL cars. I am not sure if this reports will prompt authorities in India to carry similar investigation here.

Re: SUZUKI SCANDAL - Improper fuel efficiency test data

I am not surprised, since the VW scandal there have been numerous reports of nearly ever manufacturer being caught having a big deal of discrepancies between the tested and real world data.

Suzuki said its chief executive will step down this month as the Japanese carmaker faces a probe into its use of improper fuel emissions tests.

Osamu Suzuki, who has led the company for nearly forty years, will stay on as chairman.

Japan's fourth biggest car company will also cut executive pay and 2015 bonuses.

Impoper fuel efficiency test has no bearing on Indian Maruti cars as the fuel efficency are ARAI certified.
You are absolutely correct. We did not share this because we think it will affect any Maruti car. This was shared as a global news and just goes to show the character of the manufacturer which has no physical boundaries. [:)]

So the same character may manifest itself in other forms in different geographies.
