Land Rover has been tight-lipped about the model but it is expected to ride on the same platform that underpins the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport. This should enable the next-generation Discovery to be significantly lighter than its predecessor.

Engine options also remain unconfirmed but the Discovery is expected to be offered with four- and six-cylinder Ingenium engines. There could also be a plug-in hybrid variant that that uses a 2.0-liter four-cylinder Ingenium engine, an electric motor and a lithium-ion battery.
