Honda compact SUV to get seven seats
Upcoming Honda compact SUV to use Mobilio platform; could be unveiled at the Auto Expo 2016.

0_468_700_http___172_17_115_180_82_ExtraImages_20150403110752_Pilot_Teaser_Sketch.jpg

Honda Cars India recently took their top dealers to the company’s R&D facilities in Japan and showed them, for the first time, the freshly developed compact SUV for the Indian market. However, its not as compact as we thought it would be. Honda is supposedly planning a seven-seat version of this new SUV which will rival the likes of both the Renault Duster and the Mahindra XUV500.

The new SUV will share underpinnings with the Mobilio and although the front section may share bits with the MPV, it is expected to come with all the trappings of an SUV like larger wheels, aggressive body cladding and skid plates all round. Honda India received a fair deal of criticism for the basic interiors on the Mobilio, Amaze and Brio, and hence, this upcoming SUV is expected to get an all-new and high-quality cabin.

Re: New Compact SUV From Honda To Debut in 2016

Every manufacturer wants to play the sub4m SUV game since they have seen the success of Renault Duster and Ford Ecosport.
Not a bad thing actually, but lets hope Honda improves its quality of materials used because the latest version of City has many such quality issues (minor though) as reported by owners (No offense to any City owners). Another desired feature would be they should make it rear wheel drive stamdard and AWD at-least as an option to really give it some SUV characteristics.

Honda Brio-SUV codenamed 2SJ.

This new SUV was also reported to be revealed to top dealers in Japan. This new SUV from Honda might not tuck in under the sub-4 metre category since it is being rumoured to be a 7-seater version. This new SUV will not rival the Ford EcoSport, but fight the Renault Duster, Mahindra XUV5OO & the likes.

The new SUV will be built around the Mobilio platform & will get larger wheels, full body cladding, front & rear skid plates, etc.

Powering the Brio-based 2SJ compact-SUV will be the same 1.5L, i-VTEC petrol & 1.5L, i-DTEC diesel motors which are plonked in the City sedan. Although an SUV, the 2SJ will not be offered in 4WD guise. Both the petrol & diesel models will be matched to manual gearboxes.

What’s interesting is that the SUV will alo get a 1.5L, i-VTEC petrol matched to a CVT gearbox

Honda ‘2SJ’ Brio-based compact SUV imported into India for testing

Likely to be powered by 1.5-liter petrol and diesel engines.*
According to import-export website, Zauba.com, Honda has imported three units of a ‘Brio SUV’ with a codename ‘2SJ’ from Thailand. The prototypes were imported into Delhi, where Honda Cars India will soon*inaugurate its new R&D Center, in Greater Noida.

The compact SUV, according to previous reports, will not subscribe to the sub-4 meter body length. Instead, it will take on larger compact SUVs such as the Renault Duster, Nissan Terrano and the forthcoming Hyundai Creta. One report even speculates the Honda 2SJ to come with seating for 7 occupants.
The 2SJ, like the Mobilio, will be powered by a 1.5-liter i-VTEC petrol and a 1.5-liter i-DTEC diesel engine. Unlike the Mobilio though, which has received flak for its built-to-cost interior, Honda plans on redesigning the interior for a more upmarket look.
On the outside, the Honda 2SJ is expected to have large wheel arches with thick body cladding and suitable ground clearance. It is unlikely to use the Brio-inspired front fascia seen on the Amaze and Mobilio.

Honda BR-V official sketches released

Honda has just released sketches of what will be its compact SUV for India, expected here in 2016. What's clear from the initial sketches is that the BR-V, as it will be called, is based on the same platform as the Brio, Amaze and the Mobilio. As reported by us earlier, this new SUV will get seven-seats and is likely to get larger wheels and tyres..

But unlike this trio, it will get an all-new more SUV-like nose. More angular compared to that of the current cars on the platform, the BR-V features a high-mounted Honda chrome grille, a CR-V-like two part grille and a lower bumper that features plenty of slashes and cuts around the fog lights. There's a prominent scuff plate under the chin and at the rear; Honda has clearly laid emphasis on giving it SUV-like design cues. The cladding that runs around the entire car looks quite heavy set, the beltline and wheel arch flares have been designed to emphasise the larger wheels, and there are roof rails as well. The tail-lamps and the rear hatch are similar to that of the 7-seat Mobilio, and this is true of the shoulder line with the kink in it as well. This is because Honda's compact SUV will be built on the same 2,652mm wheelbase and the engines on offer will be similar too. The 1.5 petrol will put out 117bhp, with the diesel 1.5 expected to put out 98.6bhp. There's likely to be an automatic version as well. The other piece of news is that this car's likely to finally get Honda's updated interiors, which are sure to appeal much more to car buyers in India.

The BR-V as it is called will be making its debut at the upcoming Indonesian International Auto Show, and should be on Honda stand at next year's Auto Expo in Delhi.

Re: Honda BR-V official sketches released

Looks like a remodelled Mobilio. I'm afraid that those Mobilio origins can be clearly noticed and would make this car ugly in the real world. Also price needs to be in the Duster/Creta category. Anything above that and this will be a dud. And lets hope atleast this one is better built unlike the wafer thin built Mobilio. Also if the seats are similarly wafer thin as the Mobilio, then customers will opt for more comfortable Ecosport/Creta. Interior design is also of paramount importance.
So, Best of luck Honda.

It is based on Mobilio platform, but sports new design. Though some parts like Doors, Handles look like Mobilio. Pricing will be key for success here in India, for any car for that matter. Hope Honda doesn't go the same way as Mobilio. A Starting Price of around 10 lakhs would be good, if they price it in 14-18 lakh range, it will be a disaster. Honda should price it at par with XUV5OO or even cheaper.

If I recall, Mobilio was developed in Indonesia and the reason for thin seats could be the thin frames of the people there. We Indians are completely different and we wish the seats were a bit thicker, Honda India couldn't do much in this regard. Regarding Interiors, it will have all new design, Honda have promised that.

Re: Honda BR-V official sketches released

Price Difference between Honda Amaze E I-DTech and Mobilio E I-DTech is almost 2.16Lacks thats really hug price gap both cars almost shares same parts just difference in length but price difference between MS Swift D-zire and Ertiga is around 1.37Lacks i feel that honda Should reduce the price of mobilio for atleast 50 to 70K depending upon variants.

comming back to upcoming honda BR-V SUV if they price between 8.5Lacks to 11.50Lacks then it will good buy from Honda stable

Re: New Compact SUV From Honda To Debut in 2016

Wish list to Honda/ This is what most city based middle class but upwardly mobile Indians are looking for. If you wish the vehicle to be successful in Indian market it should have all of the following:
Diesel
Automatic/AMT
Black interiors (for heaven's sake dump beige !!)
Good plastics
Upmarket interiors
Good instrumentation
Airbag
ABS
EBD
Rear sensor & camera
GPS
Climate control
Price below 12 Lakhs for the above.
Its a challenge. If you meet all of the above the vehicle would be an instantaneous hit !![:)]

Buddies, Looking at the above renders and closely observing the price strategy of Honda at the recent launch, if this upcoming car is launched here, be ready to pay a premium over the others in segment for Diesel variant. As it is, Jazz Diesel is charging a premium of about 80K to 1 Lac so my guess of pricing this car in future would be that top end spec would be nothing less than Rs. 13 to 13.5 Lac in Diesel.

Upcoming Honda BR-V interiors likely to be similar to that of New Jazz/ City

According to our reliable source, Honda BR-V will have a model dashboard similar to the All New Honda Jazz or commonly called the Honda Jazz GK5
